Like the rifle bolt analogy. Dam near 500hp mated to a manual transmission you can beat on daily definitely gets the job done. Guarantee Mt drivers go through tires faster!!

A clutch stop helps a tiny bit.

Picking up my manual tomorrow at PCD!
I have a G83 with the automatic (which I am keeping) and I am not sure where all the love comes from. The paddles are no where near as responsive as say a PDK and that lag just takes the fun out of it for me. For it to be engaging I want to feel the car quickly slam into gear when I hit the paddles. Even on the highest setting the trans is still slow. So I don't really find myself using them much. I am pumped to have the ability to do it myself, and while the entire world hates the rubbery feel, I am sure the engagement of doing the change myself, Rev matching, and just the extra work of it will make it worth it. If it were just about speed, i would have kept my Plaid Last edited by TheDrivenGarage; 11-06-2023 at 12:55 PM.. |

I'm glad an auto driver finally admitted this, without DCT what's the point of using the paddles at all? Low blow I know!!

There is little doubt that the 8 speed auto is by far the better transmission for the G87, however, driving the 6MT has a sense of occasion that is sadly lacking in many modern motor vehicles....6MT will be a historical transmission before we know it and that is reason enough to go analogue whilst you can.

The root of the problem is people always say "better" without saying better "at what."
I don't think anyone is disputing that 8AT is a better performer, and more daily-drivable. As it is for every car made in the last 20 years or so. The question is whether you care more about the engagement of MT than you care about performance or commuting. Some do, some don't. That's why it's a matter of taste. "better," without context, is a rather meaningless word. |

Manual was really the only option for me and was a main reason I went with the M2. I was also thinking Supra, but I needed the backseats for my dog. Couldn’t be happier with my choice.

I having a 5 yr old and a 1.5 yr old in my backseat and this G87 is my daily so the 8AT outweight any driving engagement for me. Sure that the 6MT will be more fun during autocross but it just isn't worth it for me. I also enjoy my remote start right now with the cold weather. To be honest, if I were to not compromise and have a dedicated car for driving enjoyment, a MT Cayman would be a better choice than the M2 for me. I just have to wait until I don't have to lug my kids around. |

Same. While appreciating all those who index on the objective performance of the 8AT, for me the raison d'être for acquiring this vehicle is the last gasp of the manual transmission. Having driven a 911SC, Boxster, Miata, and stage 2 Golf R, I'm happy to accommodate any and all clutch and stick idiosyncrasies for the privilege of involvement.
