Brake noise and vibration
Listen I expected to have some brake noise with the M compound brakes, but the M2 seems to take it to the next level. Not only do I get a good amount of squealing when coming to a stop, but I'm also getting vibration and shaking when the brakes warm up. Best way to describe the vibration, it almost feels like abs is activating. Only happens when I'm coming to a stop, at low speeds. Anyone's else M2 doing this? It's hard to believe that my pads are glazed at just 3500 miles. I've never had to brake very hard.

I am curious about the squeeking brakes. I’ve had 10+ BMW M models since new in the past 15 years or so, none until the M2 have I ever noticed to made this noise. I presently own a ‘22 G80 M3 Comp xDrive as well, never heard a peep in 2000 miles. I picked up my G87 M2 a week ago and it has been squeeking at almost every stop, no vibration though. The brakes look identical to those on my G80 M3. I did notice quite a bit of rust when I took delivery with only 7 mikes, but they are steel and I see this on my M3 every time I wash it. I was thinking that BMW is using a different pad compound on the M2, I’m not sure yet. I was going to ask my service advisor, but I rarely get infirned answers from the dealer. I would be very interested to hear if anyone else has something to say in this topic. Is everyone’s M2 doing this, should I have the pads replaced. I only have about 100 miles on the car. I attached an image of my G80 and G87 for comparison.

Does anyone know of the regular steel brakes are the same on both the G87 M2 and the G80/G82 M3/M4? Because, as mentioned, my G80 makes no noise whatsoever. Could the pad material be different?

I would like to know if they are using the same pad size/form as well?

Mine have squeeked since the first 20 miles. Basically right away.

No noise at 4000km on my G87 brakes with some hard stops from up to 170km/h, but I do rinse out all the brake dust from around the calipers and backing plates every time I wash the car (as I do on all my vehicles).

Brakes got 100% quiet after the track day. So, to me, the answer is: drive the car as it was intended. |

Almost at 2k miles and my brakes just started doing this yesterday. It is a vibration at low speed right before the car comes to a stop. My brakes are also noisey but I'm surprised by that.

So I'm not the only one with the slight vibration. I smell some sort of a recall coming. Btw it gets worse over time. And it seems to happen once the brakes warm up.

Every time I wash the car I give the wheels/brakes a good rinsing. I have found over the years with a number of cars this keeps the brakes from squealing or if they are stops it. After washing it is imperative to drive the car long enough and use the brakes enough to get them hot and thus ensure they are dry. |

Will say that with noise and vibration there could be a hardware/mechanical problem. I'd hate to advise you do a brake bedding in procedure until the brakes have been given a pro tech's inspection and found at least free of any hardware issues. I'll add my M-B cargo van started manifesting similar behavior at least with regards to the vibration and shaking/shuddering. ABS intervention came to mind but it was not regular vibration but rather irregular vibration. This is *not* a sign of ABS activity. When I had the van in for its 'B' service I had the brake fluid flushed and bled. The fluid was about 2 years old. After the fluid flush/bleed the vibration/shaking/shuddering when coming to a stop was gone. |

There's definitely not going to be a recall on this. This is all considered normal behavior for performance breaks. You do have to scrub the material off with hard breaking and clean the brakes thoroughly.
(Assuming there isn't a real hardware problem like loose bolts).

4600 miles here and haven’t heard anything. I’ve driven the car hard from day 1 including 2 Track days.
I also drive the car immediately after washing. Someone should start a Poll squeakers vs non. And Pirelli vs Michelin. |

Be aware.. my G87 started doing this as well. Progressively got worse. Took it to dealer, turned out theres a broken crank dampener, which causes the shaking before coming to a full stop. Part has to be ordered from Germany. Minimum 2 week turnaround time. Unfortunately. It's been just over 2 weeks for me so far.
