My23 Screen Protector Options

Was looking into a screen protector and came across this one - seems like very limited choices.

Has anyone installed? Does it fit properly?

I've also seen a few tpu films on aliexpress (way cheaper than that, under $10 shipped).
They're technically for G20LCI or iX and i4 but it's the same size.
Haven't bought yet, still thinking about it.

Confirmed, 29.5” x 5.5” is the exact same screen size on our MY23 idrive 8 screen. I measured mine at 140mm x 750mm which converts to nearly 29.5” x 5.5”.

I ordered a custom cut flexible semi-matte (mild anti-glare) from Photodon.com. Screen type I ordered is MXH, size is 140mm x 750mm with 3mm corner radius in all 4 corners. It fits perfectly on the MY23 screen. The price was about $50 shipped.

Be careful using film type screen protectors. They have a noticeable wavy texture and just feel kind of gross. The 9H glass screen protectors are nice but they aren’t a good match for the curved screen. It’s also super glossy, as a sheet of glass should be, but you’ll have really bad glare.

Many reasons actually:

1. Reduction in visible fingerprints.
2. Impact/scratch protection from any stray items, watches, rings, etc and from just general wiping of the microfiber over time.
3. Additional glare reduction.
4. Cheap protection for an otherwise expensive component.
5. Last and most importantly, because I want to.

I just ordered this set of Xpel PPF for the interior (including the screen) which is specific to the 2023 G42.

I primarily got it to protect the interior trim (I have black high gloss), I'm not even sure if I'm gonna put it on the screen yet.

Interesting option.

Has anyone used anything like this in previous vehicles? Any insights on ease of install, longevity, usefulness, drawbacks, etc.?

I ordered the same interior PPF kit mainly for the interior trim however I will not be using the included screen protector since XPEL Ultimate Plus is very glossy and for sure this would make the MY2023 screen quite unlegible when the sun hits it. You really want to use a screen protector with anti-glare coating.

Coconut Did you install the other pieces? Happy with the decision?

After several weeks of ownership, and since I will be the only one in the car 90% of the time, I am opting to not use anything for the time being. Although I don't care for the forced added glossy black trim, I have not noticed it getting dirtier than other parts. I try to wipe things clean daily (we'll see how long that lasts!).

I got 2 options from ALiExpress. A TPU film and tempered glass (bot for the screen). I'll share my thoughts when I get em.

I got 'em but haven't installed yet. Quality seems the same as any other screen protector you buy for the phone.
The "Tempered glass" (could be plastic, hard to tell) is in 2 pieces as expected. 1 piece ones cost double - my guess is in big part due to shipping as you can't fold Them.
I'm going to install "glass" first and see how it goes. I'll upload a couple pictures too. Should have it by end of week.

Got to install the "tempered glass" this weekend. I'm glad I did as under the direct light, I could already see a few scratches on the screen. Came in 2 pieces, as expected. Installation is as simple as on the phone. It fully covers both screens and lines up well - no noticeable gaps. It is glossy surface so it does reflect more - especially during the day. Not to the extent to bother me though. Sensitivity and visibility is same as without it, no complaints there. For $12, it's definitely worth it. TPU films cost even less. I got one just in case, but won't be using it anytime soon.

I am still on the fence to get one or not. Since I am in the car solo for 95% of the time, I am holding off.

Was this from AliExpress or another site?

Aliexpress. Way cheaper than Amazon (it's the exact same product) and took about 10 days to arrive.

sandrik93 Have you driven in most lighting conditions since installing? Curious how the glare is with low-level sunlight, i.e. early morning sunrise and early sunset.

I have. Doesn't bother me too much. If you focus on the reflection you will see yourself. The easiest comparison is the phone screen. If you hold it up where the dash is, that's how it'll be. Darker the image, more reflection you'll get. The speedo isn't very bright or using very light colors, so the reflection is there. Not enough to matter for me.
Honestly - it's 10 bucks. Try and see for yourself.

Alright, well I tried the giant 1 piece custom cut matte screen protector from Photodon and it was a nightmare to install. It is just too large and at an ackward angle that no whatever I did, there was very visible dust underneath. The anti-glare coating also further reduced sharpness from the screen and it made the text blurry/fuzzy around the edges. I removed it.

I also had an XPEL precut kit. Decided not to install it after doing a bit more research. PFF was designed for painted surfaces, not touchscreens. Who knows what damage the adhesive will do to the touchscreen down the years. There is also real risk of it delaminating the screen once you do remove it after a while.

I went ahead and ordered the 2 piece tempered glass screen protectors. Yes, it's glossy but I'll see how noticeable it is.

Just saw this as a one piece option and ordered as well:

https://screenprotech.com/collection...en-protech-kit

I had it before on my Tacoma and glare wasn't bad. Though now I'm worried about the install considering @[Coconut]'s previous comment.
