G42 B58 has a different tune to the X3
m40i pre-lci tune hence the sound difference. I too have been having quite mixed feelings about my M240i but there are days where it feels like a Lexus in Eco Mode. My biggest niggle is I gave up an RS3 for it and resale in Australia is quite poor |

I have only about 2,800 miles on my '23 M240ix, but I think I can understand what you are sensing about this car. When I was breaking it in all I felt was how heavy and ponderous the car was. Basically, I was so bored by it that I was convinced I'd made an expensive mistake. I shoulda just bought a damn truck. Keep in mind that my other car is a '16 Porsche 981 Spyder, 6MT and maybe the lightest car Porsche made then. To be honest, I still get that same feeling when just moving along somewhat slowly in the 240. You do need to be at least somewhat circumspect as to where and when you do this, but the best Rx for me was to finally decide to "wring the car's neck'" so to speak. This car is not "big" in terms of length, but it clearly is big in terms of being heavy. Having said this, I do still have the problem in that when I want to drive it seriously I find that I'm going very fast. It's not safe or responsible to be outrunning all the other traffic, so I often keep the car out of 8th gear and let somebody else go on ahead. The M240i is certainly not a sports car for me; it is a good GT, but not if you let it loaf. Almost everything is too big and heavy today, which is why I've ordered a Miata.

Mind you, my 240 is still on order so I can't have a truly informed desicion, but: Interestingly, I was cross shopping the m240 with the miata. I had an unofficial semi-extended test drive with the Miata on a trip in Hawaii, and absolutely loved it, but... I live in the PNW and 90+% of my actual driving is highway commute or equivalent. I realized that as much as I would LOVE a Miata if I lived somewhere that my driving was even 50% fun twisties, the Miata would be the move. But for me, I realized the Miata just isn't the move in highway traffic, and that was the final kicker for m240 for me. |

Blazer9547: I think you are definitely making the right decision for your use case. Of course, I don't have the Miata yet, but I did have an '11 NC version many years ago. I actually ordered the new Miata to serve as my track car (so it will need suspension and tire changes) because I cannot afford to use my '16 981 (Boxster) Spyder for that- parts and track insurance are very expensive! If I eventually come to my senses I will likely sell the Spyder, but the problem is that every time I open the garage door I simply cannot believe how beautiful the darn thing is. Driving that car is just insane fun, but also quite intense, so I don't just hop in it for errands.
I think you will likely love your new M240i. In my opinion it's too heavy to be a sports car, but it is a fast and comfortable GT, and is great fun when you really put your foot into it. The only issue then is that you are at triple digit speeds in a flash! |

I don’t hate it it’s just not what I thought it was I definitely don’t think this car needs an M badge on it if that wasn’t there I’d think much more of it I know it’s not a full M car I didn’t expect that but I don’t think it lives up to the M badge it’s just a nice sporty-ish BMW definitely Gt car not a sports car

Steering feel is dead, sadly. I guess that’s modern cars. |

The biggest disappointment for me is my F22 was more well built (fewer extraneous noises in the interior). Other than that, the G42 is higher quality (seeming) overall. Definitely a step towards more luxury or cruising than sporty compared to the prior gen. |

Do you drive it in manual mode or leave it in sport auto? I feel it comes alive and feels much sportier when you decide what gear to be in, even though the auto modes are great.

+1 to this. I find when I put it in manual mode, I drive it like a d*ck LOL. As is should be, just living up to the stereotype
