Is a noisy valve sound at shut down somewhat normal.

Did a search and found several other noises ticking, rattle etc...while running but nothing at shut down.

Turn the car off the engine sounds like it needs a valve job, or that bad gas gasp for a second as it shuts down (sorry, hope my description is adequate).

I use only shell Cali 91 crap and sounds fine at idle and when revving, currently stock.

Any Ideas or am I being paranoid.

Its normal, I get the same noise. Its just all the moving parts slowly stopping. Ive had a couple bmw's and Ive never heard this rough of a shut down but it seems to be fairly common. We tried it out at the n54 meet here in Richmond. They all sounded about the same.

since you are 6mt, try this, keep the clutch pedal to the floor while you hit the off button, for some reason on the 6mt if you have the car in neutral and clutch pedal up, you can hear the clutch chatter when the engine is shut off

Just tried it...still kinda makes a clutter noise when it shuts down. BTW I never leave my car in neutral when I shut it off. It always goes in 1st.
