Rear Fender Liner Rubber Boot?

Look at this rear-shock replacement video at around 4:10. See how he puts the top of the shock through some kind of rubber boot attached to the fender liner?

I just replaced my driver's rear shock and upper mount -- I didn't have such a rubber boot -- just a hole in the fender liner where I could see the fender itself and the round hole for the shock mounting. Am I missing a part -- it seems like it might act as a water shield for the mount (mine was certainly deteriorated). Would this be a separate piece I could order -- or is it part of the fender liner?

Looking at the video again -- I believe what I'm seeing is part 5 ('sealing grommet') on the RealOEM diagram that is part of the BMW upper strut mount. My old upper mount was a Dinan mount that had a boot that was separate from the grommit -- and my new mount is the Monroe.

In the Monroe mount the lower half of the mount includes the 'sealing grommet' but there is no equivalent of a boot.

I guess you are not waiting around for an answer, but yes, that's 33506767010 sealing grommet. I'm just doing mine with the monroe top mounts too, and without that OEM sealing grommet the monroe rubber mushroom is a little sloppy in the hole. It may tighten down OK without the sealing grommet, but I'm re-using mine.

Not sure that I understand your reply. In the Monroe 4 piece mount -- the 'sealing grommet' is the major piece below the fender. I don't see how you'd use the OEM 'sealing grommet' in its place -- as the Monroe piece also includes the actual guide support that is a separate part (33506771738) in the OEM mount.

Was using both actually possible? Wasn't an option for me as I was replacing an existing Dinan mount.

The 33506767010 sealing grommet (pic below) is a very thin piece of rubber. In the parts diagram it looks solid, but the top section is hollow and fits on top of the monroe part that goes into the fenderwell hole. It provides a little more diameter so there is a snug fit into that hole; without the OEM sealing grommet, I found the monroe part did not fill that hole. Though you would probably will never notice it when torqued down.

I used Bilstein B8 shocks (24-120425), KYB lower shock mounts (SM5767), and Monroe upper shock mounts (907984). Only part that I re-used was the sealing grommet. Stock springs on 2012 328xi E92 with MSport.

And yes (now) I know that MSport with X-drive retains standard suspension, so next week I will post a comparison of OEM Sachs, B6 and B8 rear shocks. Dimensions and dyno curves (though probably no curves of the blown-out OEM Sachs after 66k miles).
