Valvetronic failure?

2013 335i, went to open the door today and heard the dreaded Valvetronic clicking. Don’t have a video but it’s very fast paced and only happens when getting in or out of the car.

I don’t know much about the Valvetronic clicking. Is it safe to drive? Is the VC motor worm gear the failure point or is it the gear on the escentric shaft?

No check engine lights. Haven’t scanned for codes as I’ve been sick all day.

How vital is this, and does it need to be addressed immediately?
