I’ve had 3 STis continuously since 2007. All were modded and so far I had good luck with them but there’s always a risk. I think an M2, M3 or M4 is a natural progression from an STi especially if you like manual, “drivers cars” and like to modify factory forced induction cars. I always liked M3s, back to the E36 and newer turbos are impressive…600 whp with minor mods. Not many other cars with that potential and manual transmission.

It is too bad that ECU can’t be unlocked in the US so Cobb or similar could create a tuning solution. Maybe that will happen eventually. I will drive it stockish for a while(probably and other year or 2) and then do something.

Only thing I’ve done is a midpipe so far. I am debating the carbahn stage 1 pp, which is their stage 2 ecu tune + heat exchanger + 4 year warranty. I figure A) it’s about as OEM+ as you can get and B) if I do sell it, having that carbahn warranty may help a bit with resale, though I don’t expect it to really pay for itself

New G80 owner here (and hopeful G87 owner someday). After having a DCT f80 which was not modified I can appreciate wanting to keep a car stock for longevity and the pure factor, however the 6spd G80 that I bought was tastefully modified and is a complete blast to drive. As long as you’re not doing burnouts and take care of the car I would rather have a car that pushes the limit but doesn’t compromise the mechanical aspect of the car.

To be honest with the M2 and only rear wheel drive where traction is already an issue, I fail to justify huge power increases with the M2. I wouldn't mind getting it up to M3/4 Comp ratings with a mild tune. I will probably just keep the mods limited to some springs and spacers (later different wheels).
