The G20 is the first 3er to get the 704 M Sport suspension with xDrive. I owned a 2020 G20 M340i xDrive for about four months. I did not like the static suspension. I was surprised by that. Prior to buying that car I had driven a lot of M340i xDrive cars, but they were all at BMW driving events and I’m pretty sure they all had the adaptive suspension. My theory is that xDrive with the static 704 M Sport suspension makes it firmer than it would be with rwd. I don’t know that for a fact. It’s just my theory. I felt like it was going to shake my fillings out of my teeth. I have always owned rwd sport suspension 3ers (E46, E90, & F30) and I’ve never had a problem with the suspension being too harsh, so I was very surprised….and disappointed. I ultimately went back to an LCI F30 340i rwd M Sport. Partly because of the suspension, but mostly because I’m too old school for the techie G20.

That sux I would have hoped they would put in adaptive dampers like the other m340i cars. Guess you have to get an m car if you want dynamic dampers with x drive and a console shifter with manual shift gate.

Adaptive dampers are available, they’re just optional. The majority of M340i owners will tell you they are a must. I’ve never thought that based on the previous 3ers I’ve owned, but I would agree with that now. At least if you have xDrive. Since I’m in Chicago I’ve never actually had the opportunity to drive a rwd M340i with the static suspension.

The only reason the car I bought didn’t have the adaptive suspension is the guy who custom ordered it failed to spec that option. He told me it was purely an oversight on his part.
