335d EGR cooler split (exhaust side)

I cannot find any similar issues, and its probably arisen since i replaced the thermostats as the EGR cooler comes off to gain access. Its split along the concertina filling my cabin with lovely toxic gas.

What are my options, as I see it:

1. Replace the cooler £250
2. Repair the split (its on the concertina side) - with what? exhaust putty? chemical metal? will it hold?
3. Can the section that bolts onto the exhaust be blanked off? will it throw up a fault code if not deleted in a map? car is not mapped currently
4. Any other suggestions?

Sorry for the questions but it doesnt look like its been covered on here so far......

Yes I saw one on flea bay for £120. The link you sent me may or may not fit, depending on whether the donor vehicle was automatic or not, then its a gamble.

I was hoping somebody had already experienced a similar issue - and had successfully repaired so could advise.

My plan of attack is to remove it and use either exhaust repair putty or the chemical metal product. Just not sure how much that pipe flexes - and whether the repair will hold
