33K Maintenance

What does one do for his 33k maintenance?

I currently just bought the car at 29k. I have done the following so far...
swapped all 6 plugs
swapped 2 coils (were misfiring on tune)
walnut blasting car (doing shortly)
I have a slight leak in cylinder 6 injector ordered part to replace
I swapped my intake for DCI


Anything else? Any vacuum lines or anything else I should look into or look for?

I changed all fluids when I got my car at 30k, trans, diff, coolant, motor.

How expensive is it to change tranny fluid, coolant? What do you mean by motor? (oil)?

I dont know the labor rate in your city or if you can do the work yourself. Fluid for trans/diff cost under $20 a bottle and you need 4. Yes I meant motor oil.

Fluids you don't really need to change until the when its due, especially for tranny and coolant. Engine oil we change every 5k. Having fresh injectors just makes the car runs smooth. But if you are concerned I would replace all your vacuum lines if your car is produced in between 07-09.

Hmm a bit of contradiction. Change engine oil every 5k but dont change trans oil until its due, in our case never. Our trans have a label that states the oil is supposed to last a life time.

That is correct..... Some bmw trans will actually have you reuse the same oil. lol. BMW actually wants us to change oil like every 10 or 15k.... but I can't never wait that long. I have seen what my oil looks like at 5k and I can't imagine another 10k on top of that.

If I can give you some input, OIL CHANGES. Keep up on changing your fluids. Let your car properly warm up and cool down, this is very important especially on a turbo car with the size turbos we have.

Can you go a little more further into it? Do they sell automatic boost shut offs or whatever they are called? How long should I leave the car running until shutting off?

I've been following this schedule, in addition I change my plugs every 15k and i'm going to walnut shell blast every 50k.

This is a big one I missed, I have 76k miles on my car and mine are apparently cracked somewhere.

It's called a turbo timer. Just make sure to keep revs and boost low until you reach about 180F on your oil temp gauge. Also, allow a few minutes before you shut your car off, especially after hard driving. It will preserve the life of your turbos by alot doing proper cool down and warm up procedures, along with proper oil maintenance. This isthe reason lots of people on here have turbo sealing issues; they don't do what I mentioned.

I wasn't for a little but now I am, I remembered from my last turbo. Is a turbo timer expensive? Is it worth it?

If you do what I said you don't really need one. The turbos are water cooled, and the pump will run even when you shut the car off. Even though that's the case, oil stops flowing, leading to possible oil coking issues on the bearings, especially considering how hot the oil and turbos get on these cars. I like to be extra cautious.

It would be easier for me to get a turbo timer, how many minutes do you cool down for? I am installing FMIC on Monday so my car will be nice :

FMIC won't do anything for you in this situation. FMIC only lowers your IAT's. After hard driving I'll give it a few minutes, light driving about 1-2.

^Agreed. I just drive kinda slow (stay out of the boost) a mile or so before i have to stop, and wait 30sec to a minute before shutdown. Ill wait much longer with the hood open and the heat blasting after really hard driving.

I don't know. I just took it to the dealer and they did what they do.

I think, however, what's called for is in the owner's manual. Your BMW SA will tell you for sure, as well.
