Standard M seat buyers: would you have spec'd carbon buckets as a $4500 option?
Wondering how many M seat buyers and prospective buyers want carbon buckets, but not as part of the whole $9900 package.

Nope. Not practical or comfortable for my use.

I lean "No". I would love one on the driver side, but my wife would hate the car if she had to sit in it. And there's not much point to life enjoying things by yourself.

I don't think there's a price where I'd spec the carbon buckets.
The car is already too fast for 99% of road driving situations and I'd bet that the increased performance of the buckets is indiscernible to most people (including me). Maaaaaybe if I planned to track it I'd appreciate the added support, but if I'm looking for a track car, I'd choose something more focused than the M2, anyway. I respect everybody's choices on how to build their car, but for me, the M2's beauty is that it's a fun-to-drive rocket that is also a very comfortable daily. Paying extra to make the car incrementally faster but considerably less functional doesn't fit my needs. Last edited by FryCookOnVenus; 04-23-2023 at 07:24 PM.. |

Interesting responses so far. The share that would've bought buckets for $4500 is higher than I would've thought, yet all the replies are from those that wouldn't have. Hoping they offer bucket seats a la carte by the time the LCI rolls around.

I think most people would rather have the roof and trim without the seats, which is exactly the options they gave.

Good poll.
I voted no as I find them less than ideal for daily use. Edit, plus I am a middle-aged man, but I have zero issues with getting in and out of them as I do it often in G80/82s equipped with them. Last edited by T_U_D; 04-23-2023 at 07:36 PM.. |

Voted No as well. Track use 2% vs daily drive use of 98%.
The other benefit of carbon seats is more leg room for passengers in the back but again, will only have a passenger in there for a few weeks in a year, so it didn't make sense. |

In trying the carbon seats in the M4, one problem I found is the centre hump makes it awkward to move the knee from side to side. I find the most comfortable heel-toe technique is to roll the right knee, lower leg and ankle at the same time while keeping the heel in a fixed position on the floor while moving from throttle to brake/throttle, which the hump makes quite difficult to do.

i would always spec carbon buckets in any car i could.
my gt3 has fixed back buckets 458 cf buckets had the ability to recline at least. the m2/m3 carbon buckets are like luxury in comparison being heated and electric lol. its not just about being supportive either. less padding/fluff means you feel more of the chassis.

I would. Had them on my G80 as a daily. It’s more comfortable then my Porsche friends with bucket. Put about 22K miles on them no complaints from my side. But every elderly person who got in complained. Wife got used to it as well. It’s definitely not comfortable as regular seats, but when I took delivery in NC and drove it back to FL, had zero lower back pain, as I do have lower back issues.

If it were $3000, it'd be a no brainer for me, but $4500 gives me pause. It adds so much of a "special" feeling to the car, that it's worth giving up some creature comforts for aesthetics and better chassis feel. Also, I would think my significant other would have a comfy enough car for actual road trips, given the size of the M2 and a second vehicle in the garage (unlikely that we would run two coupes)

Price was not the issue for me. As seen in the reviews, they don't work comfortably with the MT. If they didn't have the hump in the middle and worked comfortably with the MT (and if I could have tried them out before ordering), yes, probably.

I have them in my 2023 M3 and paid the option for them and not the carbon fiber package. Worth every penny. I daily the car, and it does not bother me at all (I have/had several Porsche GT with buckets). Once seated is far more comfortable than standards for me. I cannot get comfortable and good support with the regular ones (F80 was far better). Riding the M3/2 with buckets change the feeling, and in the M3, my kids enjoy every time they open the rear door, with this superb carbon fiber shape.
