Interesting, the video above shows a US-regulation model with carbon buckets.

Yeah, I spent a fair amount of time looking it over this morning. It was popular in terms of people looking at it and taking pictures. From talking with many people, casually, it appeared to be very polarizing.

What was your opinion seeing it in person? Better or worse than your opinion going into it?

Also, how's zandvoort blue in person? Is it a washed out color that hides body lines?

I guess it was about what I expected although some areas just don't agree with my taste, even looking almost unfinished or whatever (see rear pic below for example and also side view of front wheel and wheel well). The blue is a bit milky maybe, but I don't care for it at all especially on an M car.

I know what you mean. In your first picture, the way the light sticks out and the bumper sticks out below it looks very odd. It's one angle I don't think I'll ever warm up to.

Still not warming up to ZB. Sigh.

Interested to see if I'll like it more in person. I'm guessing I'll like it more but still dislike it lol.

I agree. I haven't been able to warm up to it too. I think it's TR for me. White/black or gray aren't interesting to me.

Too bad no silver. Going back and forth between ZB and BG. I think I'm going BG based on comparing these pix

For some reason all these pics of ZB look like they have some sort of blue tint over the entire photo. At least that's my impression looking at them on my phone.

But then when I clicked on the instagram link/video above, it looks "normal" again?

Maybe it's just me. I've been up since 3am

I tend to agree. The videos tend to look better for ZB. But it's just a color I don't think I could live with. Seems washed out. I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's the flat paint. Maybe it's because it looks like a color for a spring holiday. But even BG looks flat. I know it's metallic, but it doesn't really come through. I've always liked silver/chalk/grey so it's the obvious choice for me given the limited colors. And I've seen BG in the flesh several times, in different lighting , and I've always walked away thinking, 'Yeah, I could rock that color!'

Yeah BG looks good I think. Curious why TR isn't in your list? I think the pictures of the car in TR look the best personally.

Too bad there isn't a better blue available.

I can't do Red/Orange/Yellow cars. Ever! I agree that red looks great in the pix. Bold. Bright. Great lines. But it's just not for me.

I actually had the choice between a Grey on Grey Cayman S vs a Red on Tan Cayman S. The red had the better options, was better taken care of. I shoulda gone Red but I couldn't do it. I think it's too 'flashy' or maybe it's because I don't like the look of blood. I don't know.

But I know I can't do red. Green. I could prolly do. That Thundernight. I could prolly do. It's pretty flashy. But I would pick that purple over red.

No. Red. Cars. For. Me. 😆

One other thing that stuck out seeing the car in person is that the headlights are sort of "undefined" looking. It's not a nice, sharp clear looking headlight. Perhaps it's the tinting they use on the lens causing that, but in some light angles, especially later in the day, it was not appealing to me.

Again, I'm old, I've been around BMWs since 50+ years ago, and I love designs like the E32 (had two of them ages ago), my E39 M5 (owned for 15 years), etc, oh I think the E46 ZHP sedan slicktop is the most beautiful BMW sedan (my daughter has been driving hers for over 17 years). My wife and I love the F87 M2C we bought new a bit over 4 years ago, but the new one just isn't something I think we'll ever own for a wide range of reasons which is fine, since I would guess if it appealed to me, it probably wouldn't be the car design BMW is trying to find here in 2023 (almost).

It's going to be at the CCA HQ cars and coffee tomorrow, so if there is any other angle picture desired, let me know. These are all untouched iphone12 pictures as I don't plan to take a dslr with me.

I have the same feeling regarding the entire front and rear bumpers. IMO they are just a tad bit too 'chunky' looking. The headlight are 90% identical to the G42 with just some minor tweaks to the housing and the added faux vents which is why I think they also look a bit odd.

Saw it in person as well, and it was about what I expected. Neither better or worse. Rear end was still a question mark for me. What's undeniable for me is that ZB is just a no go for me. Pretty flat color and it just doesn't accentuate the car like TR does.

I will say, the car was among some truly stunning M's. We're talking F87CS, a real M3 CSL, E36 M3 LTW, 1Ms ect.... it was always going to be difficult to sell me on it. The G87 is honestly begging to be lowered, wheels that fit better, and maybe some CF aero. It's not a pretty car IMHO, but it can be made to look aggressive if that makes sense.

For me though, I came away not seeing much of a reason of wanting to upgrade my F87, and if I had to pick a G8x, at the moment it'd probably be an IoMG G80 6MT

It was an amazing line up of cars for sure! As I was standing in that long lunch line, I gazed over at them and snapped a pic of three at the left end of the line: E46 M3 CSL, E60 M5 6MT, and an M1. The M1 has been restored to perfection by BMW Classic and looks brand new. Looking behind them in the picture is an E92 M3, E39 M5, Z3M Coupe, and an E28 M5.

So yeah, with this company that the sort of odd(?) looking G87 was forced to be around, it had some pretty high standards of comparison.
