so many carbon roof problems, would you skip it

with the previous M2 I see a lot of problems with the carbon roof, imperfections and such, its to the point I'm afraid to order it, is anyone else thinking the same? how much weight is saved? Some say replace it, I've seen the heartache and pain and can't imagine the hassle

The previous M2 didn’t have a carbon roof. The M2 CS did, and it is quite infamous for having a lot of issues, but that’s because it used a unique weave that BMW haven’t used since.

Get the roof.

Same weave as on my G80 and it's amazing, get the roof! It looks killer.

I hate weight, I was thinking of buying a used F CS but the roof issues turned me off, as did the cost, I think the smarter move is the G update, I think I'm about convinced on the roof now, next up, how do I justify not getting the crotch splitter carbon seats? I have seen the old M3 last of the V-8s, most off those roofs are pretty bad now however

Test the buckets. I think it greatly depends on body shape/size. I’ve got them (175lbs & 6’1”), in a manual, and have zero issues with them. The only downside for me is ingress/egress and that is workable and a fair trade-off for the form and function of the seats. YMMV

I hate sunroofs: the reduced headroom, the squeaking from the gaskets, and the issues with drains that can become an issue later in the car's life.

I got the CF roof just to avoid the sunroof. If I could have just deleted the sunroof, I would have done that, but that hasn't been a US option for a while.

Get the roof.
A friend of mine has a 2021 M2 CS. While I don't recall the exact dollars amount, he received a substantial refund from BMW as compensation for the roof imperfections.

I know this is not about the roof but I cannot recommend the cf buckets. If you have back issues, they could be a nightmare. Yes, getting in and out, back issues or not, is a not enjoyable. I have had some Recaro Special/Limited edition anniversary seats I loved but these are different. Yes, many love the cf buckets so its definitely a personal decision (no right or wrong). Would have loved to have been able to option the Full Merinos like the G80/82.

For my G87, its M Sport seats and cf roof. I would recommend getting the cf roof covered with ppf.

I don’t like moonroofs, if I could if specced my M340i without one I would of. My M2 has a carbon roof, wouldn’t have it any other way.

Our sunroof is open almost every day/evening in Arizona.
Never considered the CF option.
YMMV

Any difference in sound insulation between the CF and regular roofs?

Sunroof for the win.

(I’ve never once had a leaky sunroof in over 30 cars I’ve owned.)
