The F87 in my opinion is the 3rd ugliest M car behind the Bangle M6 and Z4M so in a way it's reassuring that they don't like the design of the G87

It's hilarious to me (since I am buying a G87) that my youtube/google algorithmic bias shows me how much the entire world is obsessed with the G42 M240i. How that car is "too good" and how F87 M2 owners have flocked to it as a replacement car. And yet, here, everyone seems to hate the G87 M2. Sure, they are different cars, but they are cut from the same cloth. Just hilarious to see the algorithmic echo chambers that the internet can so easily create.

I am buying a G87. But I absolutely love the F87. F87 Comp in hockenheim silver makes me weak in the knees every time I see one. Crazy how someone could possibly like both. lol.

These BG shots during the golden hour are probably deceiving though. I want to love BG so much. But when there isnt the right light to neutralize the blue undertones, it just looks very blue to me.

In any case, it is completely delusional to claim that only F87 keepers have an issue with how this cars looks. Plenty of non-M2 and non-BMW people find it to be awkward and ugly. It's a polarizing design. Nothing wrong in admitting that.
My F87 was leased that I ended up buying out, I could have easily have switched over, even could have sold it for more than the residual

But after seeing the G series, the choice was pretty clear.

Older one looks so much better. BMW's design language is all over the place.

Former F87 owner here. G87 looks are fine. Time doesn’t stand still. Just buy an F87 if you don’t like the G87, still plenty of low miles cars to be had. I’m going to wait for an LCI. The colors are horrible right now.

I’d argue in many cases it is the opposite. I, for example, was excited about seeing the G87 and was planning at some point to upgrade to it. But, after seeing it and having driven the G80 on track, the looks, weight + transmission in particular (ZF is sluggish and Manual is rubbery) have convinced me that no, it’s not for me.

As for looks specifically, I was excited as I mentioned. But, my initial reaction when I saw it was one of severe disappointment. That feeling has changed a bit, but it’s more acceptance vs. liking it. I honestly consider this a step back vs. F87. That has nothing to do with me owning an F87. Just my honest opinion. I wish I saw it and thought ‘wow!’ as it would make my next buying decision easy. As it stands, I have no idea what I’ll replace the F87 with.

I will happily await an LCI/CS etc in hope they fix some issues but don’t assume people who have F87 are biased. I WANT to love this car, but I can’t.

Happy for anyone who has the G87 though. It’s still a great car regardless.
I understand what you mean and I firmly believe you.
But it's impossible not to notice how the "mine-is-better-just-because-it's-mine-rest-all-is-shit" is a dominant factor among M2 owners.
For some people it is difficult to accept the arrival of something new and better, but for M2 owners it is more of a religion, most of them are not car enthusiasts, they are taliban.
I couldn't join in the M2 section when I had the M2C because I found the level of most of the threads very shoddy and childish, and after seeing what happened when the M2 Competition was released - horrible front end, ugly rims, heavier, bad sound, more unsprung mass and so on - I didn't expect anything different for the G87.
The M2 section is mostly populated by desperate guys (I guess in their 20s) looking for confirmation that their M2 is cool or sound nice, or that is a real M-car.
This is to say that the facts once again confirm that the shitstorm comes mainly from F87 owners, and it is hard to believe that they are not biased.
I've owned an M2 Competition and I've seen the new G87, I like them both in different ways but it's impossible not to say that the F87 looks pretty dated to me now.

Nice color, but the car looks horrible. Especially in comparison with the previous M2.

Couldn’t disagree more. I was so looking forward to the next gen M2. I don’t think any BMW fan wants the next generation to be disappointing because they want to upgrade.

Although I don't disagree with your general point, I find it ironic that you call F87 folks 'taliban', 'childish' and 'mostly populated by desperate guys'. Might be prudent to practice what you preach instead of resorting to ad hominem attacks.

A mesh cover would clean up the front. The ACC bars don't look right

You'd think that'd be the case...but it's not. The proof is out there if you check the threads that hit the front page. The guys yelling the loudest about how "ugly" this car is all have the same thing in common.

It's not a coincidence. It's insecurity.

Design could be better but it's definitely not getting worse the more I stare at the pics. In fact, it's starting to grow on me.

Significantly better design language than the new 7 or x7, I'm glad they didn't go overboard with goofy decision making like split headlights or huge kidney nostrils.

Ultimately it's an M product with a manual, ICE & RWD so props to BMW for still offering something for the enthusiasts who want to row their own gears.

Hoping for better interior colors and maybe a better blue option that doesn't require going paint to sample.

Color is way better than the bullshit blue they have for it.

Car is still uhh different.

Not polarizing like the G8X's but definitely different.

But thankful they still offer a manual, even though the take rate will be abysmal lol

You really think the take rate will be low??

I think it'll be 50-50 or close to it.

Not many manual options left esp at the $50-70k price point (not counting ADMs).

Your options are really a 400z, Supra, Camaro, Mustang, G8x and ….. maybe new Integra Type S??

Can't think of much else unless you take a huge step up to a Porsche or CT4/5.
