Exclamation Official new 2009 US E90/91 specs info - BMW release

Well,
BMW answered my questions tonight after I posted on why they were keeping us in the dark (USA).

Not going to make some people happy, as it is still leaves some things open.
The DCT being one of them. No Direct injection and No Connected Drive. iDrive.... Full read and .pdf

Actually, what little they say about the coupe and cabrio could be taken to mean that the '09s will be saddled with the old iDrive. I'm reminded of how several auto manufacturers refused to make any meaningful improvements in some of their top-selling cars in the face of rising competition, and never regained market share in that segment. With Infiniti coming out with a very attractive cabrio and Audi revamping its A4, S4, and RS4, I'd have to just shake my head and wonder what BMW is thinking (especially if they release a new iDrive and DCT with the E92/E93 models throughout the rest of the world and not to the US, which I would find insulting if it weren't so utterly knuckleheaded). That may just tip the scales for cancelling my order and considering more attractive alternatives in the next few months.

well the pdf does say that "The 3 Series also encompasses Coupes and
retractable-hardtop Convertibles; these continue with less extensive updates for 2009."

But it doesn't define if it's the idrive or not

At one point in the release they used the phrase "motoring along" or something close to that, when do we use that in the US? Never, this was a cut/paste thrown together and adapt for the US market release.

As I wrote earlier today, I am torn between them holding info back to sell more 2008 cars or they just have not made a final decision yet on certain features (you think that would have been decided a while ago but with the economy and exchange rate it may have been changed).

That they did and for once they may be correct!
That is the most difficult part of sorting through all the info, what market gets what and how something can so quickly change. The DCT was originally for the US market but the economy and dollar is such crap now they can sell the US DCT inventory to the ROW and make twice as much money.

We are going to see a real shift in the US as far as cost and options go if the next administration does not fix this mess we are in.

The US was the largest most profitable market, but that is in the past, BMW has options elsewhere and should do what they need to maintain there profit margins and stay independent.

We dug this hole and now we need to dig out of it.

I still do not understand why Alfa is still coming to the US... makes little sense.

Was reading through the pdf and found this little nugget:

"BMW’s acclaimed xDrive all-wheel drive is featured in the newly named 328i and 335i xDrive Sedans and 328i xDrive Sports Wagon."

Looks like the xi model will have a new and longer name (along with the other name changes BMW has planned - http://www.bimmerfile.com/2008/07/15/bmw-x3-xdrive30/). I hate these new names, they just take away from the simplicity of BMW names that I've always liked.

(I'm reading the pdf and posting findings I find interesting as I can get through it).

On page 14, there is a listing for the transmission choices available for all trims in 09. Nowhere does it mention DCT. This is the only mention (as far as I can see. I skimmed through ten pages or more worth of information about the diesel engine and new iDrive.

Here's the passage in full:

Transmission choices: 6-speed manual or automatic, shift paddles optional.
All 3 Series transmission choices are 6-speeds. The manual gearbox, standard on all models, is
engineered to provide what buyers want when they choose it: precise control and a high level
of driving pleasure.
BMW also places a high priority on active driving pleasure with its automatic transmissions.
Recent refinements to the 3 Series’ automatics have improved their sportiness, precision and
efficiency: a torque converter that slips less, quicker shifting, finer adaptation to driving style
and conditions. All BMW automatics include a Sport mode that quickens shifting and holds
the lower gears longer; and a Manual mode that allows the driver to take charge of virtually
all shifting.
Steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles are added on all automatic 3 Series models with the
Sport Package, and include a Direct Selection feature: When the driver is motoring along in
Drive and makes a shift via paddle, the transmission goes into the Manual mode.

"class leading automatic climate control" - i don't how its different from the current one. The current climate control system in e9x is total junk.

There are mum on the e92/e93 thats for sure.

Dam I want this:

Lastly, a heated steering wheel – much appreciated by drivers of other BMW Series in winter
weather – has been added to the optional Cold Weather Package for all models.

Had it on my 5ers and will miss it on my upcoming e92.

It may seem like a small thing, but I'm surprised it took BMW this long to integrate "active front head restraints" to help prevent whiplash. My Infiniti already had it back in 2000.

Read the details.. This new one has solar sensors and polution sensors and mist sensors and it adjusts itself automatically based on those conditions...

Mapezzul,
Is there any indications on when they'll release the 335d pricing?

The fact that nobody has yet able to confirm that the US 2009 E92 coupe is getting DCT is probably a sign that we won't get one.

All the other countries already know.
