Real Retail Prices?

First-time poster, looking for some information.

I am looking at a 2007 328i (sedan) with MT, premium, xenon, cold weather, idrive, CPO, 35,000 miles, in-service July 2007. Car looks to have been babied by prior owner.

The dealer offers about $27,000 (about 2,000 down from the internet price). Always like to pay less, but has anyone actually done so recently? I'm in the NOVA/DC area. Anyone buy a comparably equipped car for substantially less?

I looked at the Galves prices that some of you posted here, but I wanted to know actual experience in the retail market.

Thanks,
T

Well I know it's an apples to oranges comparison, but I recently sold my '06 330 with IDrive, premium, steptronic with 40k miles in near perfect condition for 23k. I would say there is a bit more room to negotiate in there - perhaps getting down to the 23-24k range.

There will certainly be others on here with a more direct experience though.

I realize you're looking at a 2007 E90 328i, but as a comparison, on 31 Dec 09 I bought a CPO'd Jet Black/Terra 2007 335i Sedan with 6-speed manual, ZSP-Sport Package (with Oil Cooler), ZPP-Premium Package, ZCW-Cold Weather Package, Comfort Access, and 27,200 miles. I paid just under $27,800* + tax, tag, title and doc fees. I also got 0.9% financing from BMW for 48 months (the sale price was actually $29k, but BMW made my first two payments).

I had no trade-in, so the dealer didn't play a shell game with the sale price.

The car's original 2007 invoice cost was $42k and the original MSRP was $45k.

The suggested CPO price was $31,995.

The car’s in-service date was 22 Nov 06, so I had 11 months of free maintenance and 35 months of warranty remaining.

The GALVES TRADE-IN VALUE was $22,800 and the GALVES MARKET READY VALUE was $24,250 on the E90 I bought. I estimated the value of the CPO at $2k, so the dealer probably had about $25k-$26k into the car.

I bought the car at BMW of the Main Line (near Philadelphia, PA) 7 months ago and 2007's have continued depreciating since then...

Thanks. I'll offer substantially less. I appreciate it and I'll post the results.

So they already discounted the car $2,000 for him and you think there is another $4,000 of room left in the car?? So you think the dealer has more than $6,000 of markup in a car that they need to have priced reasonably to attract potnetial buyers. I think you are living in a fantasy world.

Yes, that dealer is obviously waiting for a sucker (monthly payment buyer) to come along and pay that ridiculously high "discounted" price. The dealer probably has $21k in that car tops, including reconditioning and CPO. Adding 10% for a fair dealer profit + overhead = $23k maximum sale price IMO.

I'll admit I think this is a bit high and is what gives dealers a bad name. I sold a car very similar to this recently without 6MT, ZCW and iDrive but like 13,000 miles less for 24 and change if I'm not mistaken. Keep in mind lease returns now are charged to dealers at wholesale plus options, I guess BMW NA sees they can get more money from the dealer as new car sales go down.
