Will Double Sided Tape Hurt Dash?
I have a base 335d without the i-Drive. I wanted to add an 8" tablet to the dash for so I designed and 3d printed a mount that fits in the concave portion I think will work well. I'd like to maintain the integrity of the dash for reversible purposes. I eventually would like to mount some high powered magnets...powerful enough to attract through the dash as my plan includes mounting them to the inside of the dash so they wouldn't be visible. In the meantime I'm considering using some strong double sided tape but am hesitant if removing it will pull up some of the dash pad. Has anybody had any experiences with double sided tape on the dash?

I have not had any problem with pieces being removed from our dash using tape or even regular house cleaning chemicals. This is not a Bentley with real leather dash. Our is some extremely durable plastic blend. You will be fine until you get your high powered magnet install done.

Wow, so much searching this forum and googling "e90 tablet mount" and never came across that thread, thank you for that, looks good! Kinda glad I didn't see that first though as it might have influenced my route. Mine mount sits more left of center, basically the top left edge is tangent to the cluster hump. The tablet is meant to be removed for overnight or very hot days. It's made dimensionally for a Samsung Galaxy A 8. The back recess is for a finish panel so it looks clean when the tablet is out, and it makes a nice little stash spot for a small power pack, etc. This is where I'm at now, paint drying, gonna mount tomorrow. When I'm happy with the model I'll dump it on Thingiverse for anybody to download and print (it's only like 1.50 in actual material costs).
To get back on topic, thank you for the reply, I'll give some double sided tape a go. Looked at some e-bay dashes and getting behind there with some magnets might be a challenge but if it works I'll be very happy...

Used Double Sided Tape
I went ahead and used some double sided tape from the dollar store. It seems to be sticky enough for me to mount it and not so much that it won't come off when I need it too. If the magnet idea doesn't work I'll prob just use some 3M brand double sided tape as I think it worked out pretty well and plan on keeping it....

Just an update for anybody interested. I tweaked the model a little more for better fitment, I'm calling it good. I've ran the new one for nearly 1000 miles. I used Scotch Extreme tape for mounting...the real test will be in the summer. I also put on a screen protector of the glare. TBH, I was kinda envious of the i-drive models, but after this I couldn't be happier with the functionality. It's available to download here...

Thanks man! Yeah, PLA does not play nice in a car environment, I found that out when I first got into printing. I used PETG for the final (PLA for the proto)... my first legit model with it. It prints similar to PLA but supposedly has the heat resistance of ABS. This summer will be the final test...
