Water pump 325i E92

Working through jobs that need doing. Next one is water pump and thermostat on my 2006 325i E92. Am in the UK Two codes keep coming back, 2E81 coolant pump, speed deviation speed outside the tolerance and 2E82 coolant pump cutoff over current. My indie mechanic has said just be done with it and put new pump and thermostat on which am happy to have done as dont want to keep runnig as is in case the pump gives up the ghost. There is no dash warning lights coming up for temperature and things seem to be running ok.

Is it worth doing a speed and voltage test on the current pump or as was suggested, swap it out before it packs up leaving me stranded roadside. I did do the stationary test where you have the ignition on then hold the accelerator pedal down for 10 seconds with the coolant bottle cap off, the pump does start the intermittent squirt which seems quite strong. This kept on pumping while it was in that mode then stopped when I turned the ignition off

I've looked up pumps to get one ordered, crikey, there is hundreds. I have no ides of what make to go for, the price ranges from around £80 up to £400 +. I'm not a cheap skate but I dont want to order in a poor rated make even though it would have a price tag. There's a few on autodoc which are the right ones by part number. I would appreciate it if I could have a heads up on a good solid brand/make that isnt cheap chinese crap and a higher price doesnt always reflect quality.

Pierburg do a good quality OEM pump, last time I looked they were available for about £250 or so.

How many miles (km) on the current pump?

Cheers chap, will look up Pierburg then, I couldnt bring myself to go for the £85 chinese 'specials'. It will be thermostat swap as well.

I wouldnt have a clue, I bought the car in March, it had 125,000 miles on the odometer, it now has a bit over 126,500, for all I know it might be the original pump. I didnt get much paperwork with it to know if or when it might have been changed.

eBay sell them, make sure it comes with new bolts, the bolts are aluminium as they bolt into aluminium engine block and are supposed to be used only once. You don't want to snap one!

It is a lot of work to change one of these plus a thermostat. So I'd order the OEM (Pierberg) pump from FCP. If you're on your original (which you don't know) you are on borrowed time and it would bother me every time I drove any distance. It is already acting up, so replace it and be done with it.
