Cool BMW M240i full M-Performance Parts equipped at the BMW Welt

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
So, I was once again very very very fortunate to have been invited back to Germany a couple of weeks back for the launch of the i7 and 7-Series and since I was there, a trip to the Welt and museum just had to be done.

Not much has changed in the museum but the Welt now has a BMW i section and there also had a few cars towards the back fully decked out in BMW M Performance parts. One of those cars was a M240i, so here it is.

For the full story click here: https://garage36.wordpress.com/2022/...-and-its-shop/

This M5 was pretty cool too.

Here's what I ended up bringing home

It's a nice car, and the add-ons look good, but I always find myself asking "why?"

For what the entire kit costs, you have an M240 that's more expensive than an M2, but not as capable.

Still, looks the business.

I love the front-splitter winglets on mine. I'm patiently waiting for the exhaust so I can make her louder.

Wish they would have done the front lip winglets for the M3. It would have gone well with the side blades and rear winglets.

I get your point but it works like this:

Fully accessorized M240i which will turn heads with its styling, or for the same price you could have a bone stock plain looking M2 that might fly under the radar. Or fully accessorize the M2 so it stands apart, then you're into base model M3 territory. It keeps going on like this up the model range.

Also not all people want the ride factors that come with a full M car-if it's a daily commute vehicle that sits in traffic for several hours a day, the m240i might be better? Maybe they don't want the stiffness, or loudness?

To each their own. My stock G80 turns enough heads, and I drive it daily without breaking my back. Quite comfortable. Given the choice between a new M2 or this, it's an easy choice.

Those stick on wheel arch extensions are a horrendous after thought.

I agree. I get the idea of not accessorizing or optioning a "regular" BMW to avoid getting into true M-car cost territory, but for me they are two different buyers or situations.

I can afford an M2 or even M3, which would be good for me as a second summer car. It makes more sense for me to have an m240i with x-drive completely optioned instead of an M2/M3 because I need a daily driver that is good in our regional weather (crap weather 75% of the time). I also spend a lot of time in rush-hour traffic from our downtown core and want good comfort and efficiency.

If I lived somewhere like Southern California, didn't spend any time driving in rush hour commutes, or I was looking for a summer car I would probably just get an M3.

What's up with that grill? It opens and closes on the front instead of behind the kidney? I kinda dig it like batman's armored batmobile in the batman movies.

Even with all the AutoZone bits glued on, there's still something "off" about the dimensions of this vehicle. Look at the second photo and then direct your attention to the rear. All the stuff from the door on back just doesn't look quite right.

I can think of at least three scenarios…

1. M240i will be notably less expensive to insure than an M2… and this expense is reoccurring indefinitely.

2. Someone wants a small BMW coupe with Active Cruise Control but can't wait a year for an M2.

3. Someone already owns an M240i.

Are the wheel arch extensions integrated on the 2 Series? They look glued on.

Fantastic looking car….timeless look. Whenever I look at a car, I always think, will that look good in 10 years. I think it will stand the test of time rather well. I can do without the stick-on striping garbage….the car doesn't need it.

I chose the F22 over the F87 because I live on top of a long steep gravel driveway in a ski resort town with snow on the ground 6-7 months of the year.

The car had xDrive, adaptative suspension and was available in interior colours other than boring black - none of these were available on the M2. Money was not a factor. I do miss having a manual transmission though.

Turning heads, can mean turning your own head and being personally excited to walk out in the garage and look at something interesting that doesn't look exactly the same as the other five m240's you pass on your commute to work.

I highly doubt you would even drive a BMW at all if that were true. Lemme guess, you live in a non-descript house, you wear zero jewelry, zero brandname clothing etc.? If the above at a minimum aren't true, then you certainly make decisions to "turn heads" (i.e. impress others). I get it, it's real edgy to act like you don't care at all about validation from others, but if we are being realistic, we all know intuitively as humans that is a fantasy.
