Non adaptive headlights on adaptive headlight car

Hey guys,

I just wanted some information on the possibilities of installing Xenon non adaptive headlights on an bi-xenon adaptive headlight car, I imagine this can be done no problems but would I risk any error codes and would I have to program this out? If so, would I only need to use INPA to code this out?

Because adaptive headlights are really expensive and they break easily plus parts for inside the headlight are hard to come by. Luckily I have a forum member who has the part for me and I should receive it soon but if this breaks again in the future I would swap to non adaptive headlights.

My dealership can't figure out my issue. When I start my car the driver side headlight cycles through properly and the passenger side does not. I had them replace the stepper motor and then recently the control module on the PS. During their diagnostic, they hooked the car up to their computer and sent a request to cycle the headlights. The DR wouldn't move and the PS did! So my car performs opposite of their diagnostic tool. Their suggestion is to replace the entire assembly. I could live without the AHL if the standard bi-xenon will work instead with reprogramming. Regular are nearly half the cost of AHL. This is why the OP posted the question. I'm interested as well.

I have a similar issue. I have adaptive xenon headlights and drivers side goes through its leveling cycles upon start up, but then drops down to the ground and doesn't move at all after that. Really annoying.

This sounds like a coding issue more than an actual mechanical fault. I would try reaching out to a coder who has experience coding adaptive headlights. Were the SMC modules ever replaced at one point?

Yes it is possible just remove $524 from VO and default code your FRM module.
You'd need NCSExpert

Have you tried to adjust your projector manually to see if it does move up and down? That's how I found my issue, I tried adjusting it and it wouldn't move so I looked at what I could access from the outside and noticed that my headlight vertical aim control was still connected to the projector bracket so from there I knew it was internal and had to open my headlight.

So if you remove this option $524 will the car still tell you if a bulb is out ?

Correct, $524 is the Vehicle Option for Adaptive Headlights, removing will make the car think it just has regular non adaptive xenons.

I have a 2012 528xi with AHL bi-xenon, I bought some Non ASF LED assembly for the same reason, Xenon headlights themself are too pricey for one so i bought some g30 style headlight. My Low/High beams work as they should, but my DRL and blinkers are not working properly. Any suggestion or if anyone has done something like this, i would love to be pointed to the right direction. I do have EsysPRO, ISTA+4, NCS Expert and bimmercode. Thanks in advance
