Near daily driver for years N54 with all the basic mods we all have and 145,000 miles. Stock turbos and fuel system. Car is not tracked or raced. I have JB4 and added MHD a few years ago. Routinely use up to 40% ethanol with great results. I can do all the work myself.

I'm looking for one more additional push for power for my N54 before I concentrate my efforts and dollars on my much newer B46 Mini (BMW).

I realize some combination of options may be best but my budget is about $2500. The single turbo set up does not really appeal to me

*Full e85. Upgrade fuel pumps and add sensor and programming. Will stock turbos do okay with this?

*Port injection. Multiport with intake or Chargpipe injectors with controller.

*Upgraded turbos.

Other options I'm not thinking of? Opinions are fine and real experience/results even better. Thanks for checking out this post

Upgraded turbos no doubt. Boost to 7000rpm.
But $2500 budget will not incl labor

Thanks for the nod to upgraded turbos. Could also add ethanol to e30-40 with the right tune for the turbos without more expense.

You can save a lot of money by just upgrading your turbos (RB Twos are under $2K), and running a good E40 custom tune, and a Stage 2 LPFP.

My car has all the basic bolt-ons, RB Two turbos, stock fuel system with stage 2 LPFP.....and it went 10.90 at 128mph with a soft second gear launch at the drag strip a couple of years ago. Hard to beat that.

Switching over to full E85, and having to run port injection......really isn't going to get my much more power than E40.

Better turbos and a good E40 tune will do wonders for power......and save you the cost, and hassle, and extra hardware of a port injection setup, controller, pumps, etc, etc.

Just another option......

Thanks for the feedback. This seems like a good option for the power and budget. I believe RB Turbos are in the St. Louis, MO area, I'm local and maybe could do pickup/core exchange to save a few bucks.

Yep, RB is just outside of St. Louis. I picked up my turbos from Rob personally (I'm not that far away either). Great guy, full of great information.

I have all 3 options with RB Stage 2+ and usually run full e85. Recommend starting with turbo upgrade and lpfp stage 2 upgrade. If you want more power, then you can run more e85, timing and boost but that will require PI. On upgraded hybrids, you will run out of fuel before you max out power potential. Fuel system will become a constraint on upgraded hybrids and e85 without fuel system upgrades.

Especially if your turbos have some miles on them, I'd upgrade them. RB Twos are a fantastic value and you could make as much or more power than full e85 but without the added complication plus you'd have new snails since yours will inevitably fail at some point.

FWIW my car is stock turbos on full e85 and it's an absolute blast. I'd love to be at that power level on pump gas with the option to add ethanol for some more fun at a later point.

Just another option......

I thought of a similar setup, but with RB ones and FlexFuel. This way you have the option to run E40 when you want, but can easily fill up with gasoline if there's no ethanol available or if/when you don't need/want to use it.

How reliable are those FlexFuel sensors and the required MHD module/tune?

I have dual walbro LPFP's, PI, running full e85 on stock turbos.
Running flash only tune by @V8bait.
The PI and second LPFP is controlled by a Haltech PS1000.

I run full e85 because I hate dealing with mixtures and getting it perfect. I found it very annoying (I have little patience ).
I like how I can just go and fill up full e85 and done.

My tuner called my setup overkill for stock turbos lol.
It makes about 500whp (never dyno'd, estimated by V8bait).
It is absolutely a blast driving this thing.
