Windows 10 is Coming................

Microsoft will launch windows 10 on the 29th July, but not everyone will be able to download the upgrade (Which is FREE) until several weeks later!

Microsoft have employed 1 Billion testers to test for bugs in the new OS, Errrrr That will be EVERYONE who upgrades, Buys, downloads it. We are the problem testers!

Nothing new there then Microsoft!!

MANY MANY business think exactly like this B_G, that's why EVERY PC Manufacturer still offers win 7 on there sales!

I have been using win 10 on our test bed for 3 months now, and like you i HATE (With a passion) Win 8.1, but 10 is what 8.1 should have been.

It is still Phone and Tablet (Touch Screen) oriented, but it is better, much better on a PC now.

Whether business will pick it up, jury is still out, but this is it now no more windows new OS, just upgrades to 10!!!

Windows 8 was similar to the Millennium Edition, a total disaster and a step back from Win 7. I’ve been using the preview version of Win 10 (PC OS and Phone) and it is great, would defiantly use if over Win 7 or Win 8 or any alternative.

It’s easy to make software work when it’s packaged with fixed (and normally nobbled) hardware. When you make an OS that is open to all forms of hardware and hardware combinations of course problems can arise, but I would say that from the days of XP the Windows operating system is the most stable and best system out there.

If you can analyse crash reports it will almost always reveal a problem with the hardware or hardware drivers.

Business is always slow to adopt, but Win 10 will eventually be adopted.

New hardware makes an OS redundant and there will be lots of new hardware capabilities with Win 10.

I’m thinking about getting one of these: http://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/u...uct-brief.html
Incredible that you can get 32GB storage, video/ sound output a CPU and a full OS on something not much bigger than a USB drive. Of course it will have its limitations, but amazing nonetheless how technology is still moving so fast.

Damn. Reading all your comments makes me glad I made the switch.

Switched to a Mac about five years ago and even though apple does have occasional issues, I'm still much happier with the Mac than I would be on the Microsoft OS's haha.

And if you really think it's free, then think again!

You'll pay £99 next year for it - or maybe you'll roll it back to Win7/8 when you get the bill???

I'm a dinosaur - I'm sticking to XP - at least all my programs run on it, unlike Win 7/8.

I read an article or two some time ago that said that MS would be charging £99 after the first year (with US and AUS prices too).

Seeing your post made me try and find it, and it seems that it was just hype, so I apologise for my poor information.

Having just read some of the MS website and other articles, it isn't clear how long MS will provide free "support" i.e. updates. Estimates vary from 1 year to 4 years. MS say that the free bit will be for the "device life" - the moot bit is that who decides how long the device will or should remain good.

Being the aforementioned dinosaur, I still have a laptop I use for some DOS games occasionally (anyone remember DOS?). This, to me, means that the device is still alive - although I don't expect any support for it!

So again, apologies.

And I'm still sticking to XP!

Mike u know Dinosaurs died out don't you?

Dos games v Far Cry 4, or GTA, or COD...........????

Lastly Mike u do know as good as XP was (And by feck it was good), since no updates or security patches have been released for years, it is the most insecure OS currently being used!

Reason........is that hackers know it is still popular and they hack away at it and no one is fixing these issues. In all seriousness get out of the neolithic stone age and upgrade to win7!!!!
It is better than XP (now), and M$ still update it....."Serious Advice from someone who knows"

Personally I like win 8.1 and windows 10.

People get way too precious about some of the changes. The 10 start menu is much better than the stupid old relic in windows 7.

Shows the dilemma that Microsoft is faced with. In this very short ultra micro survey of sorts, we have support for every OS since XP.

Having used Win 10 now for a while, it is a vast improvement over 8 (8.1), but is it, will it be better than 7?

Most of us (Dinosaurs excepted ) have got used to 7 and 10 is a good half way house tween 8.1 and 7, and it is FREE, (As long as you have a pucker 7 or 8 licence!

Don't expect an instant upgrade on the 29th, as M$ have said it will be a few weeks after that before the masses get the link to upgrade! Us testers will be first

Dinosaur? I am quite old, so I haven't got that much longer to go

Never been one for 1st person games
Original GTA, yes. And original Need for Speed.
The old age thing means I'm no good at "modern" games anyway!!

I am well aware of the pitfalls of XP, and I should know better. Perhaps I should describe myself as a Luddite!

. . . . . As I type on my Win 7 laptop!
. . . . . On an unsecured, public WiFi Internet connection!

Mike

win 8 wasn't a disaster, merely badly designed. 8.1 was quite well received and is showing serious adoption on a business level.

OEM licenses allow you to install the OS of your choice, but that doesn't mean they're offering a windows 7 license. its a windows 8 license, with the option to downgrade.
try asking an OEM for a laptop running windows 7...

Mac's are alright, its nice when your kit all works together. love the fact that the new iphone will finally show a capital letter on the keyboard when you hit the shift key and a lower case at other times, as opposed to the all capital keyboard in the first 8 versions. wonder if apple will finally acknowlege the bug where swapping to searhlight loses you the popup keyboard?

i quite like windows 10, it finally handles 4k screens well, which will be a boon for photography buffs.

Business Hates Win 8/8.1 i have sold 3 laptops (out of about 200) and 2 of those where downgraded after just one week!

Most Dell's (Business Latitudes and Precision) laptops are sold with Win 7 Pre-installed, but with a Win 8.1 recovery disk.

Win 8 was a complete disaster and just about every business IT Magazine agrees with this statement.

Win 10 is going to be better, but it will be a few years yet before business mainstream adopt it!

Get underneath the sugar coating interface of 10 and it is 7 pure and pure!

We buy 30/40 laptops at a time, they're always windows 8. you've sold 200 in total? thats about 6 months for us and we're a tiny business. your sample size isn't big enough.

Most businesses don't use Dell.they have less than 13% market share for business use.

The day I listen to a business IT magazine is the day i quit the IT industry. They're all paid for by advertising. they all have an agenda. anyway, so what if they call it a disaster, your statement was about businesses not adopting it. the number of migration project contract job ads i saw last summer would disagree with that.

But most businesses never adopt a windows OS quickly, its not in most businesses ability and they've all learnt from 98 and XP that you let consumers find all the bugs.

this is your worst sweeping generalisation, it just proves you're ranting about this area and you've not looked into it...

virtual desktops
hyper-v
direct x 12
cortana
universal apps
syncing settings to the cloud between computers

a tiny amount of stuff thats in 10 and isn't in 7.

seriously, find something else to go off on.

4 of 5 devices in this house are now on 10 and it is fantastic. Still finding my way around it and its features but, no complaints here for a free OS.
