Tesla Model X announced...Just need to find some more £££
So last night Tesla announced the production version of the Model X.
I absolutely love the way it looks, and the 'Falcon' doors are something else.... All the performance stats were known about before 0-60 in 3.3 seconds for the stupid quicker version, and 'only' 4.8 for the 'normal' 90D option... But when you get old (like me) things like luggage space, and safety becomes important, especially when you have your own family to think about....the thing that sold it me (and my wife) was the crash testing photos - The side impact protection of this thing looks absolutely phenomenal compared to a X5/Q7. The PCP deal on my Leaf ends early 2017, and fits in perfectly with first RHD delivery times for the Model X....Only problem is there is currently only one version announced the 90D, which will likely have a UK price of £70K+...That's just far too much for us to justify, falcon doors or not. A cheaper version is coming, but no idea when or how much cheaper.... For now I'm itching to press the 'Reserve now' button, but have to wait till a version we can afford is announced....Really should have worked harder in school |

I love Tesla's. Would love to own a Model S. (Any version!)
I like the look of the Model X. However, not keen on the doors at all. They firstly look like something that is bound to break. Second they look to be solving a non-problem. Sure you can open them in a really tight space, but how are you actually going to get a child in or out? Or how about a baby seat into its isofix base? Lastly, if you are parking so close to another car, how are you going to open the conventional front doors? And... the other car dosent have Falcon doors. So what happens when they come back and open there doors? Door dings is what. Another slightly worrying stat, apparently Tesla has yet to make ANY profit? Makes me wonder how long can they really keep building these things? Surely eventually investors are going to want to see a return. Really wish they had announced the cheaper car now rather than the model X! Even though, my lease is up in 2017, so if the cheaper car is shipping then maybe just in time? |

I'm leaning towards the 6 seater version, so climbing from front to back is easier...Seriously though, I've always wanted a car with 'Gull wing' doors, now I can get one WITH my wife's approval
Tesla actually have one of the highest profit margins per car, the reason they report a loss is because of the huge ongoing costs towards building the worlds largest battery factory and product development. I wouldn't hold my breath for a cheaper Tesla anytime before 2018 - Not in RHD form anyways I wouldn't be surprised if it's 2019 before it arrvies in numbers in the UK. The first RHD Model X will hit UK shores before Q2-3 of 2017!! - Thats a 2 year delay from US launch, pretty much on par with the delay for the Model S. The Model 3 hasn't even been teased yet.... Musk has also said the cheaper car will have less features/range to save money. When my Leaf goes back in early 2017 it's either a used Model S (cheaper) or a Model X - At the moment I cannot see my self NOT getting into one some how. Call me a big kid, but 'gull wing' doors on a car I can used day in day out... |

To me they have only addressed half the problem. Yes it may be easier to unload a kid through a falcon door but marketing it as a 'tight space solution' means fixing every exit. Not just the rears lol.

I think I am in the minority here but I struggle to see the appeal of the Tesla from a purely aesthetic / design point of view. They are just so bland looking in my opinion.

Looks are very subjective, to me the 3 series has always been and will be one of the most boring looking cars around. But despite that I bought one
The test drive thing is a good point. I've driven the Model S, going to book another test drive in one soon I think. I cannot see how the X will be bad to drive, it's an EV after all. Hopefully some reviews will be appearing at some point. The only thing I'm not sure about is the price....I don't need a massive 90kWh battery for towing or 250+ miles of range. A £10k cheaper 75kWh version would be perfect for me...Tesla have said a cheaper version is coming but not given a time line |

What happens when you go into a low height multi story car park?
As others have said they have tried to solve a problem that doesn't exist. Supermarkets and car parks have specific wider bays for families. |

the top of the range model S is the p85D which are £79k
the model x base model is the 90D, which doesnt have the 'P' performance tag like the top of the range model S, but is the model they reckon will come in at around £70k so the base model X is more powerful than the top model S and is *probably* slightly cheaper. a direct comparison between the top of the range X and top of the range S will be worth doing once they release prices. especially as the X is the more powerful of the 2. |

Couldn't find the other Tesla thread so posting on this one...
Just seen a S P85d(?) In metallic red. Looked nice from the rear and thought it was a Jag xFR at first, but I couldn't spot the tailpipes. Then I realised what it was. Driver stopped at lights followed by a 250cc motorbike who pulled up alongside. He let the motorbike go....and I did not expect what happened next. No engine growl, no rasp from the exhaust....just this 4wheeled mass of metal which appeared to be catapulting off a jet carrier.....seemingly effortlessly. Was I dumbstruck? Yes Disappointed by the lack of noise? Finding it difficult to answer. |

I test drove a P85D a few weeks ago, for various reasons I didn't use 'insane' mode. But even without it the acceleration from a standing start is like nothing I've felt before.
Going to book a longer test drive soon, I want to try the P90D in 'ludicrous' mode and also the RWD 85S, and AWD 70D. Need to decide if an quicker 0-60 time is worth an extra £20-30K between the base car and the full fat P90D. These things aren't cheap, but I rather spent money on them rather than earn a pathetic amount of interest through a savings account, as people say 'Life's too short' |
