Do Not Buy From Ecs Tuning

This is the worst vendor experience I have ever had in my life. Coming from a car enthusiast, you want all your stuff prestine and perfect, and you don't want your car looking like crap.

I chose to buy my trunk from ECS tuning since these guys were supposed to be reputable. I've been a long time customer of theirs, my roof rack, ski rack, bike rack, etc have always been purchased from ECS.

I purchased this trunk back in february when they were doing a free shipping sale, the first trunk came in damaged, and they had returned it and exchanged it (delayed 3 weeks), when the trunk came, I had it sent out to the body shop to be painted, (This is the fiberglass trunk with CF spoiler). Everything came out fine, and I had the car sit out in the sun for a bit and bam, all this warping and bubbling came up. The body shop had mentioned that its the quality of the fiberglass, and they were happy to repaint it for me at no cost, since they said they backed up on their painting and told me it was the fiberglass.

I ended up contacting ECS and have been going back and forth with them for a good 2 months, and the latest response I get is they will refund me and I will be responsible for paying the return shipping, since "the trunk was not intended to be painted"

They are recommending the trunk to be used as an exposed fiberglass trunk.

Trust me, don't buy from ECS Tuning, you might even get a better product from a ebay vendor.

Wow that looks really bad. I have had that happen to me before with carbon fiber when it gets really hot. I hope you get your money back. I have never had any issues with ECS but have never bought any body panels.

Honestly, not worth my headache. I'll have to pay for a shop to remove it and pay for shipping BACK to ECS.

I've already had a bad taste with them and I rather throw this out.

Lessons learned.

I can't really speak from experience as I have never purchased from ECS, but you seem to have been a long time customer with multiple orders and only one bad experience.

Is that enough to completely steer away from their products?

Unless I am missing something and you have had other bad experiences, I don't think this is something to jump the ship over. I'm sure some sort of resolution can be made especially when they offer a refund.

I don't think their statement about not paining the trunk is acceptable though. All body parts should be expected to be painted. They should cover return shipping along with the offered refund.

Staying tuned to see how this plays out....

Since April 2013, I've placed 21 separate orders with ECS Tuning and have never had an issue. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with them, but the reality is, there is not a single retailer on the face of this planet that can boast a 100 percent customer satisfaction rate. Overall, and based on what I've read on this forum, I think they do a very good job in trying to resolve customer service issues.

Hi Tom, Since I got my 2009 535xi I have been ordering from ECS. I've been a all-time fave from ECS and I can even show all the invoices to back it up.

It sucks now that I have to go to another vendor, but that's the reality. They an't please everyone. They don't have the proper staff knowledgeable to back up their products.

Ive been extremely patient with them. This whole issue of the trunk has been happening since March 2016. First order was damaged. They sent a replacement but was delayed week after week. After said and done, new trunk came, painted and this issue popped up. This issue has been going on since first week of July. I'm going to take time tonight to post up every email that I had with them.

Very unacceptable, especially for a long time customer.

PM Sent, provided all the information you needed in regards to my order.

If it takes a few post on the forums to make ECS to some work, there is a bigger problem.

I would agree with that assessment. Just out of curiosity, how far up the management chain did you take this?

not at all. ECS sent me a private message and asked for my order number and I gave it to them, but nope. Nothing.

ECS is a joke.

I had that issue too when I bought stuff and had it shipped to Canada.
They wouldn't give me a break on the shipping rates, their calculator that they use to calculate shipping rates is inflated and they charge their own fees like UPS does as a "handling charge". I stopped buying from ECS and went to FCP Euro, at least the owner of that company CARES.

ECS doesn't give a shit, they said they would give me some money off on a new order. But after looking at their shipping rates, I had to turn to another vendor.

It's really their customer service and the amount of commitment they have with their customers and their parts. I was impressed with my prior purchases, but those were all just off the shelf parts.

I guess I was stupid to trust this type of company on an actual car part that they carry. Like I said, I was assuming they have decent quality since it was a reputable vendor. But based on their quality and customer service, seems like eBay is reputable vendor as well.

oh they want it back?

simple solution: chop it up and mail it back to them in a tiny box for $20.

simpler solution: file a claim through your credit card.

Honestly just go with the chargeback. You got everything decently documented.

i would think the problem is your paint shop....

"the trunk is not intended to be painted" is also a very bad answer

I highly doubt it's the paint shop. They have been working with me for years. They extended the offer of 'repainting' my trunk at no charge and they said the outcome would be the same. They have also repainted my front full cf modecarbon front lip at the same time, and it looks as prestine as it is supposed to be.

Minor update from ECS early this morning. They said they will offer a RMA on my trunk. That's it.

You know, it's not cheap, but I'm not a jerk like how they are.

What, you think they're going to repair and resell it? It is going straight into the trash. They sure aren't going to ship it back overseas to the Chinese manufacturer either.

It is just busy work and inconvenience to dissuade the customer from filing a return.
