Melting Diffusers

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I saw a FB post about this guys diffuser melting after a track day. His car was 100% stock and other people are freaking out saying BMW dropped the ball on quality, and that they wish it was produced in Germany. How often is this happening? Anyone else hear about this?

When will everyone realise that the location where these cars are built has absolutely no impact on their build quality. The plastic for the diffuser wasn’t created and tested in Mexico, it was just assembled there. The G series has been built there before the G87 was and the quality has been very well regarded as better than the previous generation that wasn’t built in SLP Mexico.

Parked next to a space heater, or he's running on 2 cylinders.

Guessing the diffuser came in contact with the exhaust tip somehow; either part popped loose from its attachment or exhaust is out of alignment.

Regardless of how this occurred it will be warranted unless the exhaust has been altered/modified. If stock a PUMA case will be opened.

If it were produced in Germany it would have had a spun crank hub. Duh.

Yes i know I just said that tongue in cheek but still, of course I would have more trust in a Made In Germany/Assebled in Germany stamp even if it’s all mostly automated …

FYI, those “German built BMWs” are produced by many immigrants to Germany. SLP is managed by German brass from Munich. Makes zero difference where they are assembled. 85-90% of SLP is automated.

But how can something like this be explained? Just a fluke? The automation decided to take a siesta or people forgot to do a proper quality check? I know lemons happen to exist but something like this simple is just embarrassing for “bmw”

Chinese part. Just as an example remove your brake pedal cover, easy task. The part is “Made in China” and just one of many.

But same part materials are also used in M3/4 and others no?

I’m very happy with my G87 so far but something like this just makes me question the quality control and the integrity of the rest of the car.. Chinese products assembled in Mexico: double whammy- even if it’s all automated it still leaves some room to question why this can happen

The BMW M Experience that has been running in Canada this summer has 5 G87 M2s in it (3 manual instructor cars, 2 automatic punter cars). Besides tyre replacements they don’t seem to have had any major issues on track, no sign of melted diffusers on those cars when we had 35C ambient conditions for the event I attended.

BMW has been using suppliers from all around the world for decades. Certainly there were Chinese made parts in our German assembled 2017 F22 M240i.

Shut down the assembly lines. Issue stop sales. Issue recalls of all sold units.

My word, Facebook people are hysterical.

BMW does have a warning in its manual: fly too close to the sun and …

I’m sorry but this incident just cracks me up

In the same breath you're defending "Mexicans" while throwing the "Chinese" under the bus...
Very confusing and nonsensical.
