Comp Package with MT?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I have an opportunity for an MSRP allocation, which I would build as a MT with CF roof. That said, the only thing holding me back is the possibility that they release the comp package with a manual option.

Do we think that is a possibility? Or will they likely follow the M3/4 paradigm and do auto only in the comp package?

No one knows...however, if you use past indications as future decisions, the comp could be auto only. But many people have been wrong using that train of thought.

Really depends on your risk / financial tolerance. Age old question of buy something at hand now or wait for something you think may happen. No wrong decisions btw.

Yeah, unless there is an insider here willing to share that info, there is no way to know at the end of the day.

The safest bet would just be to wait until they release the comp if you're having FOMO already.

I would be really surprised (and a bit upset for not waiting) if the comp comes out with a manual. I would think the comp would have a manual if it was completely replacing the m2, but believe signs show it’ll be sold alongside the new m2 (like the g80/82 comps are alongside the m3/4) next year from what I read. Anyone with more info correct me if I’m wrong though.

Buy now, flip later “if” a manual Comp is launched at LCI. The Comp very likely could be xDrive and auto only. Another “what if” the comp is skipped and a CS or CSL is only offered. It is really too soon to call given that the base G87 has not even entered production.

The G87 already has more hp than you can use on the street. Unless you plan on doing a lot of track driving the competition doesn’t make financial sense.

Just buy the m2 now and when the comp comes sell it and get the comp

Personally I'll be skipping the comp and going straight for the m2 CS

Another food for thought... while the difference between the F87 base vs comp was drastic (different engine, M seats, M mirrors, etc), I don't think the G87 base vs comp will be as drastic. First off, I can't imagine them putting in a new engine in the comp, and I also can't imagine them creating another bucket seat option that isn't already offered.

My guess is the Comp gets a modest bump of 20hp, to M3 base 473hp. That way they can still offer a manual.

Beyond that what is there to offer? Maybe a black emblem package, a different wheel option, new exterior color?

Certainly seems doable.

You mean 473? The M2 is 453 stock.

Speak for yourself. If that’s the case you’re fine in a Corolla because the speed limit is x mph. I want a reliable 900 hp street car and this engine will do it.

Let’s be real here. For the F87 the Competition was only 0.1 second faster 0-60. The G87 Competition will probably be about the same. For all practice purposes they are the same.

Wait for the LCI. I hear the Jumbotron® on the dash will grow by 40% and offer a World of Warcraft subscription plan.

This is your answer.

Longer version: The rule of thumb has been the cheaper the M car, the better the depreciation curve. You’ll be fine with an MSRP M2 even if the overall car market goes back to normal. There are few lower TCO experiences than a brand new, warrantied, “cheap” M purchased at the beginning of the generation. 1M, OG M2, M2 Comp - any losers in that group?

Buy, drive, and enjoy.

Just my opinion but I think OG M2 were big losers
I would be so mad if I got an M2 without the real M engine and then few years later the m2c gets a real M engine and like a huge horsepower bump

oG m2 owners got fucked hard

Not 100% relative, but nevertheless, the 1M does not have a “real M engine” and they are highly sought after. The ‘S’ engine designation certainly can be beneficial, but it is not a leading factor per M.

Yeah, this is the exact personal thing ppl will have to answer before they buy the base. How much will the upgrades later affect you? If you’re the FOMO type that needs the ‘best’ version of a series run, then just hold off.
