N55 engine with pic

got this from other forum!

Wow! TwinPower Turbo!

I see alot of possibilities for cold air intake system for this car since there is only one piping for intake track!

If the new "M1" is a N55 with a different turbo (or 2 turbos), as the bimmerfile guy (Mike?) suggested, then it would seem that the stock turbo on the 2011 N55 x35's will be some kind of a performance bottleneck.

This engine is going to be easier to mod that's for sure.

Yup, you can the port for it in the turbo housing here, the black plastic part attached to the turbo on the right is the actual DV, this method is excellent from an efficiency standpoint since it reacts at the source, so it minimizes pumping losses (turbos don't continue to spool during blow-off when compared to the location in the N54):

I wonder if this is a BorgWarner Turbo....As Audi has had these electronic DV's for a long time. Hopefully the diaphragm in that electronic DV can withstand the additional boost people will be running in these things, if not I am sure Forge or the like will come out with some mechanical alternative like they did in the 2.0T motors in the Audi. Also I wonder if it will be easier to access all these parts for mods/service.

Hmmmm.... This motor is looking more and more interesting as I read more about it.

why does that manifold look like it is a 6 into 1 design? That wouldnt make sense if they are saying its a twin scroll.

It is double walled. On the inside wall there are 2 separate exhaust gas paths.

Yea.. but can you imagine the labor involved in physically getting to that DV. If it's anything like the n54, even a simple bumper removal won't reveal that location of the engine. IMO, that's going to be pretty tough to mod (DV).

Granted.. I can't see the first pic so maybe there is room.

For cold air intake looks like piping will have to be pretty long. For short ram - the filter seems to be located right on the engine top...

I would have to think that BMW is really going to try and nurf the tuning capabilities with the valvetronic system in place. Just a hunch and I would love to be wrong, but that is my gut feeling.
