Best site to sell a modified g42 m240i?

My M3 will be here in 4-5 weeks. Need to sell her and dealer doesn’t want a highly modified car (I have ~$10k in her). Cars.com? Autotrader? Perhaps AutoNation?

Surprised the dealer doesn’t want it. Or do you expect to get more because of the modifications? Often people expect to get their money back for modifications and that’s not really going to happen. It’s like motorcycles or Jeeps, no one is going to pay more for the car because it has 10k is “stuff”
Just the reality.

They want me to strip it. Then even stripped they want their usual large margin vs private party. Im asking for $2k above blue book for stock (with the same spec/miles), which if two people actually saw the stock g4 next to it and drive both they wouldn’t blink at the $2k.

I’ll keep them in mind. There has to be dealers that appreciate some mods? I’m thinking bmw want stock in most cases for the CPO option.

In the day and age of price is everything I’m not sure people will drop an extra 2k on a modified car that they probably want as a fun daily. The market for your car is different than that of an M2 or M3 for example. The target market for your car is a boomer or gen X that wants a fun reliable daily driver. I would shy away from any modified m240i. As soon as I see “mods” all I think is Boy racer who drove the piss out of it and now needs a new one. That’s the sad fact 80% of the people looking at your car will think “ What’s wrong with it” they won’t care if you say you babied it. You can hand them a signed affidavit that you never red lined it. It means nothing. They just see a modified car. When I worked for Benz we had no problem selling C63’s that were unmodified. But any C63 that had been modified was worth less every single time. The most expensive one we ever sold used was a C63 507 that was bone stock one owner. It fetched 20k more than a modified version. The facts are that in a dealership or on the street modified cars rarely ever get better money than bone stock ones. Very few people in this world appreciate modifications. You’re looking for an “enthusiast” that has the same tastes you have. And in that world everyone likes what they like.

Does that apply to appearance mods? Do carbon splitters, spoilers, ceramic tint, ceramic coating, PPF, apex wheels on square MPS4S tires all lower the value right? 😜

If the mods affected the warranty I can see why a dealership wouldn’t want it

You could also try Bring-A-Trailer (BAT). They would probably accept your car for auction, and you will get a very large audience. You do have to be a bit careful to make sure you can agree on a high enough reserve price, just to protect yourself.

The only issue I can see is the JB4, but there are many buyers on BAT who will not have a problem with that, particularly with your crank hp. The key with BAT is that you have to stay involved with the auction and all the questions both bidders and the so-called "commentariat" will raise. Good explanations of your modification decisions will go a long way toward making bidders comfortable. Your reason for the sale makes good sense, so that actually does help. Best of luck!
