325d remap
Well my 325d M sport now has 2200 mls on the clock and is loosening up very nicely, I have DMS coming tomorrow to breath on it a little Expected figures are 245 hp and 485 Nm (up from 197 hp and 400 Nm) will post a write up later in the week.

Sounds good! Keep us posted!
mikem, question for you: Did you do the suggested break in (rpm<3500)? Or did you drive it normaly from day one? Just curious, because I have approx. 500 miles and already took it up to 4000rpm while overtaking. Now I have some bad feelings about that...

Dante once the car was upto temp. I just ran it normally. I`ve only hit the rev limiter 2-3 times `tho as by the time it gets to 4.5K things are going a little crazy. Tolerances on new engines now are nowhere near as wild as they used to be and the transporter driver who delivered my car (a very well dressed, very well spoken, elderly privateer) said that when they "drive" a delivery they`re told to "use" the car properly. So to answer your question Dante, don`t even worry about it, chances are it will have already hit the rev limiter long before you even saw it.

Ya, I know they take it all the way up already in the factory. But I'm huper sensitive with this as this is my first new car I actually get to break in. And I want to make it right. I'm doing a trip to Austria tomorrow, will add some more miles! Cheers

Got a phone call this morning from Neil, technician from DMS asking where he wanted me to meet him, decided on my house so we could use the garage (absolutely pouring down). Neil arrived about 10.45 and finished about 12.20. The whole process seemed pretty straightforward, hardest part was trying to get a signal to send file back to the office, had to be done via my broadband in the end (no mobile network works in my village ) After he finished we set off for a drive which was about a 10 mile loop onto the motorway at 1 junction and off a junction lower with fast A/B roads either end of the motorway. Wasn`t really sure what to expect and Neil said it would take a few miles for the car to adjust, couldn`t really feel any difference on the motorway (constant 80-85). When we came off the motorway I decided to leather it as its a fast twisty dual carriageway that no one uses now the motorway is there (Neil became very quiet at this point, not sure if it was the driving or whether he was worried I wasn`t happy ) It`s hard to describe without using all the buzz words that you read in evry write up of a remap, all I can say is the car now feels so much more alive. The throttle response is way sharper, as soon as you push the throttle it just surges forward, even in 6th. Accn in 2nd and 3rd is just brutal and the car pulls hard all the way to about 4.5-4.7K rpm. Car now has 235hp (not 245 hp as posted earlier) and 485 Nm, to sum it up I`d say the car still does what it did before but now does it quicker and with far less effort (and I can`t stop grinning) In all I`d say DMS provide a great service (my first contact with them was yesterday lunch time) and if you haggle enough a fair price. It`s cost me about double what e-maps or chipped UK would`ve charged but in this case with the engine design being so new I felt it was worth it for the warranty cover.
Neil also said that he`d spoken to people who had dealt with e-maps and chipped UK and nobody had a bad word to say about them. |

Hey Guys, Servus,
I'm new in this Forum .. and already in need for advices .. I Have a great opportunity for a 325d Touring (6 months, max 3.500 km) from a good friend .. The car has all the right options: Navi +, xenon .. etc ... BUT with an AUTOMATIC transmission.. I've always prefered my own shifting... but I'm considering this change .. as I do a lot of city-driving as well .. What do you guys think? Does the engine characteristics fit to the A/T ?? |

welcome to the forum! I think the engine is great, with manual or steptronic. The characteristics fit both, there's a constant pull from 1000 rpm without any flatspots. And the engine has sufficient power, you won't miss anything. Plus, if you want, you can always use the step. Does it also have the shift-paddles? Cheers

Servus Dante,
Thanks for your comments. No the car doesn't have the paddles, but I have used the Steptronic before and it's OK with the handle ... Plus this car has the latest version of the 6-gear Steptronic ... for the first short testdrive in citycenter (the car had only 18 km on the clock) .. the feeling was great .. So the plan is: keep the original 160 8jx17" for the Winter tyres .. and get 18" for the summer .. I'm still hesitate between the optional 162 .. or the accessory Radialspeiche 196 .. I saw it on a E92 330xi .. looks AWESOME Bis bald Take care Anthony |

I would go for the style 196, so special... Take a look here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3915 and here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=196 But most of all, I really like the 19" M225: http://mein.auto-treff.com/J%FCrgen325-5.bmw

Hartge
Hartge has a chip that delivers minimum 271 HP and 592 NM torque for the E90/E92 325d 2007 model.
As far as I know, all the other tuners delivers appr 230-240 HP and 500 NM. I talked to Hartge and they said they do the remap in two steps. |

hartge
It gets excactly the same performance as the 330d.
Hartge first maps it as a 330d in the first step, then lifts the performance to 271 HP / 592 NM. The figures are conservatively rated. I found the chip in Hartges website, called the Germans and then talked to the Norwegian dealer. I get my car in 3 weeks time, silver E92 325d with M-package, stickshift and red leather interiour To bad that the 325d cost more here in Norway than a new M3 costs in Sweden or Germany:mad: Anyway, I think the 592 NM will make me quite happy anyway:rocks: |

I already put 25.000 kms on my stock 325d.
I'm extremely pleased with this engine and I'm sure it has far more than 197hp as stated. Whats very interesting: There is a speed limiter on the car! The car is limited to 235 km/h (250 km/h on odo). I have hit the limiter several times, the mileage drops and you can feel the resistance. Without the limiter it would be able to hit 260 (odo). This would indicate a number of about 210hp. Did someone dyno his 325d so far?

I have seen a lot of dynos on both diesel and petrol BMWs from the last 15 years, they never have A LOT more power than rated. I saw a graph where almost 500 NM were indicated stock on the 325d around 2000 rpm, but BMW says 400 NM @ 1300 rpm, so that seems right to me. The rated top speed on the 325d E92 (coupe) is 238. Interesting with the limiter! My collegue has a E92 325d already and it is really quite fast stock, so the car does not scream for chiptuning. |

ESSTUNING dynoed the 325d to 184,5 hp at the rear wheels. So you rguess at 210 hp is close, they calculate a power loss of 15%, that would mean 217 hp. They have developed a chip for the 325d that delivers 238,5 hp at the rear wheels, they claim 280 hp / 600 NM engine power. www.esstuning.com Dag |

as one ofmy friends said - spirited driving is not a question of transmission type, but a driver.
mikem - congrats and enjoy the new power. How much did the remap cost?

Original horsepower is really appr. 217 hp@4000 rpm, the torque is 420 NM. (Thats 20 hp / 20 NM more than the 197 hp its supposed to have, probably because its detuned) The engine in original state drops hard after 4000 revs probably so it wont get as close to the 330d in max performance, while when chipped (properly) its like the 330d engine that pulls good all the way to 4800 rpm. The 325d had a top speed governeur at 240 km/h until 2 months ago (2007 model), the 2008 model has the limiter at 250 km/h. If the tuner knows the BMW programming well the 325d can be chipped to 280 hp and 600 NM, but theres only two tuners who can so far, German Hartge and Norwegian www.ESSTUNING.com |
