Inexpensive upgraded shock mounts - Monroe 907984
I was looking at purchasing the expensive polyurethane mounts from powerflex and similar vendors.
I found these by accident while at the local Napa store for $10 a piece. The Monroe 907984 appear to be a solid "rubber" material, unlike the soft OE foam most shock mounts are made of; and even tho they say they only fit non-sport suspension, they fit the m-sport suspension in my E93 just like the OEM mounts are have the same dimensions. The difference is significant from my OEM mounts. There was a slight "bounciness" in the rear when going over rough roads or rail road tracks, now its completely firm. Wish I'd seen these earlier. I recently installed a set of Powerflex yellow upper rear shock mounts.
Minor update/heads up here WRT to them and maybe these. As pointed out the stock mounts are pretty soft new, and degrade more with age. I replaced mine with the Pflex because I began to get some jiggling back there. The jiggling is gone but there were some odd knocking sounds on tiny bumps/pavement ripples while turning which were beginning to drive me crazy. Mainly right side rear. The ONLY thing I did that day was the mounts and the intermittent knocking sound started almost immediately. I thought maybe I did not tighten the top shock nut down properly or lube the bushings enough, something. Took everything out from inside the trunk, took the nuts off, and the upper half of the mount. Everything had been tightened and lubed properly and zero sign anything was loose in there. Re-lubed/re-tightened/re-assembled everything. When putting all the other stuff back in I noticed a slight rattle from the tool holder over the battery, and another rattle from the spare kit I run with since I dumped the run flats. Took out the loose things, voila, zero noise on a long test loop. I can only conclude that since the new mounts were much stiffer, making the shocks work more (koni sports) and transmit more force to the car's unibody on tiny road imperfections, it was enough to start shaking those loose things enough extra to cause the noise. So if you get some new noises maybe it is something along these lines. Or at least look into it before you tear your suspension apart. I had all kinds of things I was going to take apart but glad I stumbled across this first. |

lol those are 7mm disposable gloves. I get the 100ct box. I dont use "mechanic" gloves because most of the time I end up taking them off when doing something that requires precision, I also like the convenience of being able to swap for a fresh pair if I get any chemicals on them, tho I also try to reuse them as much as possible.

Cheap, and easy. Did not even have to undo the lower mounts to change them out. When I did my subframe bushings and shocks I used oem mounts. In hindsight that was a mistake! Thanks!!! |

OP thanks for taking the time to post this. I swapped out my rear shocks yesterday and bought these mounts on your recommendation. Perfect fitment and noticably harder than OEM mounts.

My rear shocks were completely blown so i replaced with new shocks along with these mounts. So I cant really say what a difference the mounts alone have made. They are a LOT stiffer than the OEM mounts so will firm things up a lot.
In fact the shocks i put in were the BMWPS v.1 which included new mounts that are supposed to be firmer than the m-sport mounts. They might have been but i couldnt tell from squeezing them. avocet said he installed these and they made a big difference. I can believe that given the difference between these mounts and OEM. |
