29.5 mpg :)

3 hour 20 min, 235.6 mi trip, automatic cruise set at 85 mph, handful of triple-digit jaunts to pass lines of slow movers.

Settings
Engine: Sport
Chasis: Sport+
Steering: Sport
Brakes: Sport

I do this trip back & forth every weekend. With the engine in Efficient & everything else in Sport, I was avg 24 mpg. Last weekend I got 26.9 with everything set to Sport. This has been the highest avg to-date. Just hit 6,000 mi pulling into the driveway.

I’ve gotten about 30.5mpg on a shorter trip but usually in the 26-27mpg range on the highway. Very good. My problem is I get too tempted to drive more spiritedly and then tank the fuel economy.

Same here. But if I let the cruise control do its thing and just cruise in 8th gear, I can often get ~27-28 mpg on highway at ~78-80mph. Not bad at all!

That's incredibly high for sport setting. I get about 25-26 on the freeway on comfort setting, only got 30+ once going downhill.

I do have a trip to LA coming up this weekend, we'll see how the mpg is like.

Yeah there's no way I'm getting 30 mpg in this car. The highest I've gotten over a similar 130 mile trip was 29.1 in my F87C. 6 speed of course.
I feel like I get shittier gas mileage in this car. But literally never check.

It's been years since I paid any attention.

I'm very grateful to be able to a.) have a modern performance car with a mt and b.) be able to afford the car and whatever fuel it takes to keep it on the road.

Two keys to mileage figures like you got:

1. hills/terrain
2. average MPH

What was your average MPH when the MPG read 29.5? Lot of hills or flat?

BTW, I've never seen trip averages of 29.5 mpg with my M2C or my previous M235i, but I live in CT where nothing is flat. Oddly, I have never set the cruise at 85 either - it's 70 for me, and I still can't get the kind of mileage you got. Who knew the S58 was more efficient than the N55 or S55?

Other notes: automatic & tires were at 36 psi (a little higher than the recommended 32 on the door sticker).

Fairly flat from Austin to Dallas. I don't have My Trips activated, so I don't know the avg mph. I got stuck in 3 separate stop & go periods for several miles each during the trip. Probably a good 5 mi each time. I also had a good chunk of time over 90 mph (making up those stop & go sections). Minus the S&G, I was never below 75 mph.

Speed limit is 80 or 75 for the majority of the drive & I've found if cruise is set at 85 (really 83), I don't get a second look from the LEOs.

So I guess what you're saying is that if it weren't for the 3 stop and go periods and the good amount of time over 90 mph, you might well have topped 30 mpg?

I'm not doubting you - you have the picture to prove it. I'm just surprised the S58 is so much more efficient than the N55 and S55. And also surprised it beats the EPA estimate by such a large margin.

As the saying goes, YMMV.

I'd guess if one were able to set the cruise at 65 mph, and go for a tank of gas, over 30 mpg would be achievable. I was shocked because my window sticker says 23 hwy, 16 city & 19 combined. I'm also guessing they're not testing hwy at 80-85 mph. In 6k miles I haven't gotten that low a number on a tank of gas. I was fully expecting to get significantly worse mileage/range than I was getting on my 330e, but for my driving I'm getting about the same (~350 - 360 mi/tank).

I once ever got 32 (us mpg) when crusing on Austrian highway from vacation where you can only go 110 kmh, some times 80 kmh due to roadworks. Extremely boring but smooth and nice to see the car can do this if needed, esp. with the small tank.

Yeah, +1 on disliking that drive. Made it all my life (with MUCH less frequency than JABCAT , but still) and it's never great.

Out of curiosity, do you stick with a certain brand(s) of fuel?
