I can understand that. What would be your best guess? $100k? $115k? More?

In 2020 the base model was 60k and the CS was 85k... so we're probably looking at close to 100k without options (assuming there are many) and then depending on the dealer any ADM (which I wouldn't pay). That puts it close in line with a GTS 4.0 without options.

I still think the GTS 4.0 would be more worth it unless you need the 4 seats especially since you can still get that in a manual if thats important to you.

Thanks for the reply. I think this is the last year for production for the ICE 718 so by 2025 when the CS comes out the 718 will be electric which is something I am not interested in. Ah!!! I still have time to think about it. Time is a bitch…can be an ally and an enemy at the same time!

Yeah, we don’t need 4 seats and wifey already has an SUV for groceries and any people hauling we have go do.

Unless they know that early adopters/buyers would always buy soon after launch and this is to attract more buyers, idk.
Why does Apple sometimes release new colors in spring, and has hardware upgrades every year? 😂

It’s the way capitalism works. There will always be a slightly better version of the product you just bought coming out sooner than you’d like. If you want the product, buy the product, and enjoy the product. Ignore the noise.

They did the same thing with the Supra. In 2020 they had the 2 port b58 and moved to 6 port in 21. Also every year the colors change and there’s generally a “special edition” A91 that year. I was quite happy with my 21 A90 auto until the manual came out and then I ordered an M2 since getting a mt Supra is near impossible. Honestly I’ll be super happy with my s58 manual m2 for a longggg time. If they go comp or cs they’ll likely be dropping the mt option so that’s ok with me. Color options come and go and as far as I know this was always the “plan” as they were bringing up more and more features at the Mexico factory.

I don't think a $1,000 phone is comparable to a $70k car. Especially when phone upgrades have almost been indiscernible as far as performance for the past 6+ years.

I am surprised BMW hasn't sold 'tune upgrades' in situations like these where there is nothing different mechanical and purely just a different tune.

They've offered that in the past for their cars but not for M cars. There's not enough of a gap in power to do so between M models.

They are not 'shafting' anyone that was an early adopter. Having fewer options etc. comes with the territory of being the first on the bandwagon. Anyone that decided to buy the car did so because they wanted it sooner than later. Nothing wrong with that, but you can't cry foul when newer models and options come out later. Furthermore, the power bump, colors etc. are all coming for the LCI model which is the 3rd MY of the G87. For a car that will only be in production for 6yrs I'd hardly call that 'so soon'.

If your question is more broadly why BMW is doing this, it's simple. BMWs bottom line is the same as any other company, it's to make money, period.

They absolutely are comparable. It’s the same tactics. BMW wants to stay top of mind and keep moving M2s throughout the production cycle. They have to release better things to do that.

Does +20 hp, new colors, and maybe some changed taillights make for any real world difference to 99% of buyers? No. But it gives BMW something newer/better to market. (Same as Apple)

Actually the Apple/BMW similarities go further. Both make more money off hardware, so they wouldn’t release software tunes. They will tie the SW upgrades to new hardware.

LCI happened on the 3rd year of the F87

So it’s very possible LCI can happen in 2025 on G87

The F87 was relatively late appearing relative to the F22 MY14 SOP (2 model years later) and production only continued until 2021, though, with the F22 and F87 both having the LCI model in 2018. The G87 appeared earlier in the G42 lifecycle (one model year later) and is scheduled to be in production until 2029, so 2025 as an LCI model year would be a bit early relative to the usual mid-life release of the LCI model. It sounds as though the G42 LCI is likely in mid 2025, which would be either a late MY2025 or more likely early MY2026, it is unlikely the G87 LCI will appear before the G42 one.

I've been passing since July for a better blue. Voodoo Blue qualifies as that better blue. And its really fun to say Voodoo Blue M2.

Will have to see.

Thanks as always Tag for the info!!

Praying that the purple is Thundernight or Daytona Violet. I really wanted a Daytona Violet F80 M3 next but I'll put in an order for a G87 so quick lol. The TBA purple on Cognac interior with carbon roof will be so sick.

I'd be happy with either. Would.love interior options as well but doubt it will be anything other than black.

To summarize...
  • As previously reported MY25 G87 will get a +20 hp bump from 453hp to 473hp but it will not be designated a Competition model as some have speculated.
  • Individual colors that are coming for MY25 as previously reported by BMWBLOG here. Known colors are Grigio Telesto, Java Green and A purple shade (TBD). New standard colors for MY25 are Sao Paulo Yellow, Fire Red, Skyscraper Grey and Voodoo Blue
  • M2 CS will go into production August 2025. It will have over 500hp but only be offered with an AT.
  • The G87 will get xDrive in 2026 although it's unclear if that's the production or model year.
Will the xDrive variant be designated 'Competiton'? Your guess is as good as mine.
Ok, YES! A CS!

Oh what am I going to have to pay for one of those?
