Disintegrated bump stop?
I was fixing my foglight (two screws came off) and took my front driver's wheel off and noticed how the top of my shock looked. I'm assuming this is the bump stop that has pretty much turned into dust? BTW these are the original shocks from 2006 and the car has 102,000+ miles on it. Can the bump stop just be replaced or should I just replace my front shocks all together since the process of replacing the bump stop is more or less removing the shock itself? What's the going rate on front shocks replacements? While since I'm doing the fronts should I also replace the rears? Last edited by azzurribaggio; 09-02-2024 at 11:42 PM.. |

Yup that's the bump stop. Yup it's normal for them to disintegrate especially after nearly two decades. Yup you might as well replace the strut if they're original. Yup you might as well replace the rears while you're at it.
Bilstein B4 from RockAuto should be quite affordable and are OE equivalent. I would also replace: - front strut mounts - rear bump stops - rear upper shock mounts (can use Monroe solid rubber upgrade) - rear lower shock mounts |
