best way to get thru Toronto

Going from Ottawa to Windsor Monday or Tuesday 16 or 17 Sep. Expect to hit Toronto roughly noon time. What is best way to get thru Toronto?
1. do not want to do 407; I think it will be $70 1 way plus tax.
2. a bunch of years ago I did this:
-Peterborough to Port Perry, Utica, Choppins Corners then onto Bloomington Road [#3 and #40]
-West to Keele St then South on Keele, then West on 11 to 27.
-South on 27, then 25 to 427 to 407 then 410 South to 401
3. can I call 510 from Peterborough to see if 401 is mostly free all the way?
4. What is best Toronto radio station for traffic reports.

I'm an older guy not good with new technology.

Thanks in advance

680 News (AM frequency) gives traffic reports very 10 minutes.

Your planned route seems good.

Thanks Wolf; I was on the road when you replied and didn't see till I got home. Yes, found out 680 was best station. My "Northern" route over Toronto worked very well.

I have absolutely no idea but I read it wrong at first and thought you were asking for the best way to get through a tornado which I also don't know but was very intrigued
