Mix and Match

335i Coupe. Pilot Super Sports. One of the rear tires has two razor blades in it. Since if you change one tire you need to change the one on the other side I need to do that one also.

I got a call today that there are no PSS tires available as the Super Sport 4F is taking its place.

Question: Is it ok to have the two different sets of these on my car at the same time? My front tires have all of 2 k miles on them. I prefer to hear from someone who has had to do this.

On my old E46 M3 when I first got the car I wore down the rear tires that were already 50% tread within a month. Replaced them with a pair of toyo's in the rear and kept the nakangs that were in the front. Car drove perfectly fine, no issues.

That's not what he's asking.

That's exactly what he's asking. And no, there is no issue. I've had different front and rear tires for the last 2 years.

I got a response from Michelin on this. Due to the sligjtly different tread designs no, they won't work optimally. Admittedly I was fishing for Michelin to comp the front tires on this deal. Before I could respond to Michelin a memo pressing for that, my tire dealer sourced a rear set of PSS from another dealer and is only charging me 235 for both, installed. I can live with that compromise. They have a lifetime repeat customer for my 3 cars. I'll probably go with the Nittos when the rears burn off by early next summer.

Referring to what weehee had said, I think they may have worked ok, especially since the front and rears are different widths in the first place.

Wow you got a smokin deal on that pair of rear PSSs. Right now I'm running Bridgestone RE-11s in front and RE-71Rs in the rear. Works OK, but I'm bummed that the RE-11s have been discontinued. I liked those tires better than PSS, and the 71Rs are too loud for me. I'm hoping that Michelin releases more 18" sizes for the PS4S before I need new tires again!
