Personally, not interested in the G42 or anything short of a true ///M badge . . . not indented as a ‘snooty’ comment, rather, my interest resides with ///M car PERFORMANCE.
The G42 does provide SOME preview of what enthusiasts can expect from the G87 in terms of design architecture. . . the G87 will be MEAN looking and certain to back the talk with the walk when it comes to performance. Of everything seen so far, the HOOD on the G42 is lightyears ahead of that seen on the F87C. In fact, very much looks like the F87CS hood, which I believe is the one thing that really set the CS apart from the F87C in terms of appearance. If BMW throws a vent in the G87 hood even better, but it should be great with or without. So, while I am not interested in the G42, those interested in jumping from the F87 to the G87 continue to have an enormous amount to look forward to come 2023. ///AVM |

I just don't like it, the look and power delivery of the manual M2 and derivatives need to be much better for me to consider it.
There will be big discounts on these in the coming years. |

So much carryover between parts now from the drivers seat you could easily think you were in the 3 series. I consider that a good thing, as the previous 2 definitely felt lower rent. The previous 2 series HK sound system was absolute garbage, interesting to see if they carried over parts from the 3 this time.
Very curious about NVH levels, the current 3 is excellent in this department and very quiet on a cruise. If you need a small fun daily this could be a great option, although for many use cases the m340i seems like the better option. |

I'm liking it more and more and might trade my F22 for a G87 in a year or two.
Those tacked-on wheel arches extensions are tacky... They are bothering me more than the triangles in the front bumper now. I'm curious how the M exhaust will sound and if the HK sound system is any better than the last gen. |

yeah I agree! I'm hoping this means that I won't have to buy an M performance exhaust for this new M performance car to make it sound good. I had to buy an m performance exhaust for each of my last two cars, i.e. 2015 M235i and 2019 M240i, which imho was kind of ridiculous considering they were both m performance cars and should have come from the factory sounding awesome!

This may very well be the successor to my M340i which would tide be over till the G87 which I am looking forward to owning. RWD only for me as well, should save another hundred pounds versus the M340i RWD.

The more "real" photos and videos I see of this pocket rocket, the more I love it. Wonder if the exhaust will sound less muted for US spec models as I'm sure Canada has PPF on their cars.

BMW just tunes it to series-appropriate torque/hp . . . and make it impossible to break ECU. If you want 'more,' then jump up a notch in the BMW model lineup. I have stated my view that the G87 is going to be a spectacular encore to the F87C only about 100x. . . still, not considering giving up my G80C at this point for a detuned S58 in the G87. From what I understand, the B58 is also a fantastic engine. . . and I'm sure it works great in the 230i. Maybe akin to a 'gateway drug' to get people into their ///M car lineup? ///AVM |
