Tragedy in Toronto

Hope all our Canadian friends in Toronto are safe! Seeing the news with nine dead and another 18 injured, very sad!

Thoughts are prayers are with all of the victims and their families.

Thank god I wasn't in that area today.

Condolences. From what I could tell, appears to be some guy that was fostering some discontent on the social aspects of life and suddenly went nuts. We can't solve problems like these, but we can send people to the moon...

Yeah an absolute nut.

"Chami remembers him walking the halls with his hands together and his head down, and making meowing noises."

The real nut jobs are the ones seen walking on the sidewalk and watching as the police engage the suspect.....

Here in the US, the moment the suspect points the hands towards the cop you would rightfully so have your body aerated!

Cop at the scene was able to spot that it was not a gun, hence he was not shot. If it was a gun believe me, he would have been shot immediately.

That's the entire problem with your country, "rightfully have his body aerated" .... what fucking nonsense.

It wasn't stated in a PC manner. . . but if anyone points something that looks like a gun at an office (or anyone) I have no issues with a police officer doing their job.

Agreed - but it is better that he was not shot... after all that is what the terrorist wanted. Good to not give them what they wanted after performing an act like that.

On a similar note - the guy in NYC that did something similar last year pulled out an (airsoft/paintball) gun and also was not killed by the responding officer even though they were trying to perform a death by cop. It does happen in the US as well.

What a tragic event that happened. I still can't believe someone would wake up and have the thought of hurting someone else.

I'll give an A+ for the editing of this thread to the moderator who did it. I'm feeling a bit feisty tonight so I would've ended up writing an other chapter to my sorry thread if I had answered to the unedited version.

Yeah, but I have a get out of jail because you're a bitch pass to cash in for tonight so I was going to answer you know who.

I don't know what to say when something like this happens. It's horrible.

Hmmm... so if a kid walks up to a police officer and points his finger at the cop (like the way kids do: thumb up, forefinger pointed straight, remaining 3 fingers curled together), you have no problem with the cop shooting the kid.

Or if the kid used 2 hands to form the shape of the gun, you'd have no problem with the cop shooting the kid. Nice.

The cop here clearly knew the suspect had no gun. There was no imminent threat to life. Shooting him would not be warranted.

This isn't a PC issue. This has been the law for centuries.

I think a moderator earned an other A, but this time I missed the reason!

Just to play devil's advocate. If they guy ends up pushing a button on whatever he had in his hand, and blows up something nearby killing more people, do we blame the cop for not shooting him?

The decision to shoot isn't always black or white, even if you know what he is holding isn't a gun.

I'll play. I love games.

If the cop shoots the guy and that involuntarily triggers a muscle spasm that makes the guy press the button (or it is pressed in the fall) thereby killing more people, do we blame the cop for shooting him when it is possible he could have been talked out of it, or a team could have defused the bomb?

Which of course was my point to the poster above who was implying that because the cop could tell it wasn't a gun there was no reason to shoot.
