OT: Finally sorted new car for the wife.

Inspired by Brigand I thought I'd share too.

Mrs M Car Chris currently has a Mini Cooper, 4 years old great spec and a hoot to drive as we know. However complaints have been growing from the Hobbits in the back.

So we searched..
...and searched.....
.......and to help spur her on I bought a private plat for her birthday last December.....
...........and we searched
................and nothing!

So I've taken matters into my own hands and arranged it all whilst she's away on holiday in Spain (I'm here in Blighty still working). Top of the list was the practical Kia Sportage (no s******ing please) got a great deal on an Arctic edition which has quite a few niceties for the price, rear seat heating and a reversing camera. Mrs knows nothing about it! I'm excited.

Family all back on Weds and it will be in the drive, private plate on and a boot full of goodies for the kids and Mrs.

Brownie points!

Also keeps the path clear for foolish BMW coupes for me. Arranged an i8 test drive fir next week but cancelled it....foolish money. Can't wait till i6/7 or pricing becomes real.

Anyways OT on my OT, new car time. Might post a pic...it's a Kia Sportage though in Silver

Good man and i like the whole surprise thing. I recently brought Mrs Adam a top spec Nissan Quashqai and whilst she isnt hugely into cars, she loves it and all the gadgets and so do the kids.
Also meant i was off the hook when buying the M4 (i sense we are in similar positions)

Id like to see a photo of it The only reason we didnt get a Sportage is that she only does around 6K a year all short journeys so wanted/needed a petrol.

Hope she loves it, im sure she will

Excellent

Can't beat a good surprise

Also gives you more scope

Hence me being happy with wife's new Pug (admittedly being faster than a 320 helps as well lol).

Good stuff Chris- by far the best way to do it. I can understand your excitement, I got the mrs's rav 4 in the same way.

No doubt someone will tell you the sportage needs acs springs or a splitter...

Whilst I shudder at the badge, I have had a sportage as a hire car (not as well specced as yours by the sound of things) and I found it hard to fault. Whatever model I had (1.6 diesel I think) it was fairly nippy and it wasn't a bad place to spend a thousand miles.

Let's face it we're all just addicted to buying cars! The research, the comparisons, the test drives, comparing specs, then comparing prices, the negotiation and haggling over the price, then the haggling over the trade in...

It's the nearest we get to hunting woolly mammoths and sabre-toothed Tigers these days...

And now I know who buys all the soft-roaders.... Despite all the car enthusiast men who say they wouldn't buy one, turns out they do really but hide behind it being the wife's car!

And fair enough as they really are ideal for family duties.

It's worse than that, she was walking past when I copied the link.

I was asked what I was doing 'oh just posting it on the BMW forum'

It's a no win situation lol.

Ignoring Nick's post (standard)...

The Sportage and Qashqai were on our short list - Sportage my favourite but the wife didn't think the boot was big enough to justify the size of car (fair point) and since she wanted an auto the Qashqai engine lineup didn't work for us. For some reason they only offer auto with the 1.2 petrol (on the CVT boys it was too slow but very smooth an quiet) and 1.6 diesel (with a 6k annual milage the DPF would cause issue and it was noisy after her petrol 116).

However, I'm just glad the search is now done!

The 1 series boot was bigger than the KIA one?

Stop right there!

Now you're trying to apply logic to the situation. Of course it's not, but what does that have to do with it??

I don't know what another 1 series got the thumbs up... but it did... so it got locked in as fast as humanly possible!!

I was just checking... So clearly boot space wasn't that big a deal!

Thanks all for the replies. One thing I didn't say was I was more impressed with my treatment in the Kia dealership than at any BMW, they just know their product sells .

I bought one with my mother in law the other weekend got her really good deal and loads thrown in. I drove it for the first time the weekend just gone and although no anywhere near the same league as my f31 it is a brialliant car tfor the money. She has an alpine edition in black. I would not think twice getting one as the family hack for the wife and sway the f31 in for a m235i or something similar.

Yep, and i ot to spend someone elses money (mother in law) which is even better. Watchin the dealer cringe when i walked in with the drive the deal quote off the bat was a picture. He didnt expect it i dont think. Then I reminded him it was good customer service to offer a brew!

Cheers Mat, good to know, I took it for a brief test drive and as you say for the money really hard to fault...the Koreans are coming. No actually they're here! The Sorento was actually rather impressive too.
