I agree if you ceramic coat and take care of it it will last. Same is true for normal paint though.

Edit:The other thing is: it's simple, epoxy and resin turns yellow in sunlight. There's no getting away from that.

I've been cycling since 2005 on and off. Anything but the best carbon frames look terrible after so many years in sunlight.
I am also a cyclist and I know how carbon frames age. Compared to the frames of the 1990s, modern frames are not autoclaved and are therefore less resistant to cracking.

I also work in aviation and I know very well the problems that carbon fiber produces. Here in Spain it is very sunny in the south, and it rains little but when it rains it rains very hard, even with hail, so I have chosen the steel roof which fortunately we can choose. Repairing a steel roof is expensive, but repairing a carbon roof is more expensive, and the carbon roof option costs €3,000 to save 6kg on a 1,700kg car, not worth it to me.

I'm going to order the moonroof. The added mass will decrease the atrocious wheel gap by at least .05 mm and lower the overall CG of the car. At the track I will be flying by all of the CF roof owners in the turns, unless they are lowered.

All joking aside, I need the additional headroom with the CF roof. I sat in a ZB at my dealership and at 6'4" (long torso) I had at least 3-4 inches between the top of my head and the headliner, and was delightfully surprised. My son is the same height and we both fit in the G82 with helmets on and this should be about the same. So any tall guys concerned with the headroom I would say you're good to go with the CF roof.

Has anyone sat in the G87 equipped with the moonroof? In the G42 (moonroof) the top of my head is rammed up against the headliner and I understand there is about a two inch difference between the two. I think the seats in the G87 are mounted a little lower (and not crooked ). Just speculation from the driving position and I could be way off.

Love the car and will be ordering one after I get over the $2600 CF roof "option".

Interesting that in your market the roof rails trim are High Shadowline and not body color. In Canada, if you go steel top or Sunroof, the visual configurator shows body color. However, when you go in the option menu, the picture shows both roof trim and antenna cover to be Shadowline.

All the G87 I have seen in person in Canada so far had the CF roof so I am not sure what is the final trims with steel tops.

I can't upload the screen grab from BMW Canada for some reason.

Well, now that you mention it, I don't know what to think, all the possible options appear:

The lightest stock specification would be carbon pack, solid paint, bi-color wheels and skipping all other options.
FWIW, according to the manufacturer's title for my M2 ZB, CF roof, 6-speed, the car's shipping weight is 3814lbs.

They just list the official curb weight. Trust me it's lighter

Should be about 3750-3760.

Hope so. 3814lbs is a bit of a porker...

Have plans to weigh the car. Truck scales not too far from me but of course the speak and display are at big rig height. Will look for a business that weighs trucks which might be able to accommodate my M2. Something like a quarry or feed grain business or an ice plant.

In CA used the San Jose ice plant. One could get a car weighed there on a Saturday for a (at that time) nominal sum of $20.

Not just about 13lbs. It is that the weight is up high. If you track seriously, you 100% care. Daily and spirited driving i get what you are saying.

With a MacPherson strut suspension, the roll centre is about halfway between the ground and lower links, so about 0.1m above the ground on a BMW. The CG is typically at about 75% of the wheel height, so about 0.5m above the ground, the roof is at 1.4m on the M2.

So 6kg (59N) roof weight removed would remove 77Nm of torque around the roll centre in a 1g turn, compared with the weight at the CG of 1,700kg (16,677N) contributing to 6,671Nm of torque around the roll centre, or about 1.2% of the roll overall attributed to the roof weight reduction.

For individuals who plan to track their M2, wearing a helmet will complicate things even further. Don't even have to be that tall.
