Probably just need to wait 1-2 years. I'm actually looking forward to getting this auto after driving manuals for 24 years..the commute to and from work will be nice while sitting in traffic, and the morning will be better as I will not be juggling a cup of coffee, while shifting, while avoiding bumps so my coffee doesn't spill.
I may keep my BRZ for the manual fun. |

After 17 years of lightweight manual driving (RSX-S) and now living in a super dense city with lots of traffic, I too look forward to a top notch auto with like 3x the torque of my 4 banger haha. |

-edit I guess price is a big thing to consider. Forgot it would be probably $10k cheaper as well. |

With that being said, im also disappointed with the new 8y design - its a step down in looks inside and out from the 8v imho. The new m240 is hands down a more premium look to my eyes. Although the Nappa is >>> Vernasca, the B&O sound is >>> HK in the m lite, and the digital cockpit in the Audi is also better, I find the m240’s interior much more appealing overall as well and I-Drive 7 is a superior infotainment system. The 5 pot is special, but the b58 is more efficient and close enough in performance for my needs. It’s a no brainer for me. |

OEMs learned from their initial high performance turbo engines. Smacking full torque at 2K rpm can unsettle the car, especially with the F80's subpar traction control. BMW made same changes to the S55 later in it's lifecycle (e.g., CS models). It's less of an issue in the B58 given lower torque levels. |

I don't drag race either, but I live in the NE US, so it'll be nice to have a rear wheel biased car when it's nice out, with 4 wheels that spin when needed. Can't beat it. Why is weight such an issue?

There's no denying that the 240ix is hefty for being the "smallest" RWD-platform BMW. I was surprised when I read the specs the first time, since the M340/440 are only a little bit heavier.
I'm glad this AWD variant exists though, because I wouldn't want to daily-drive a RWD car in the weather we get up this way, not to mention the road quality is less than ideal for the suspension of say, an M2. |

All true. But I cannot get over that horrible design. I was banking on replacing my 2015 M235 eventually but that is not going to happen with this iteration.

Word on the Audi forums now puts the first RS3's in dealerships in Q4 2022. These will be fully optioned. Audi/VAG dealers in general are really aggressive with "market adjustments" so MSRP + 5-10k like the Golf R. That's going to be an expensive RS3 and will put it so far out of M240 territory it's not even really in the same ballpark.
Audi is also having production problems because their wiring harnesses are sourced from Ukraine. People with deposits in are not expecting to see their cars until 2023. I was shopping in November 2021 and saw the writing on the wall and jumped from the RS3 idea to the M240i. I ordered a car and got it in under 6 weeks. As a comparison of how automakers are competing, BMW is clearly way ahead when comparing these 2 cars. |

If you live in a warm, fairly dry climate, really care about weight, and like to get the tail out a lot then RWD is the move. For the vast majority of us, AWD makes more sense though. Does Xdelete work for the G42 yet? I wish you could turn off the AWD system like in some of the high-end M models. That would be the best of both worlds imo (just a tad heavier). |
