Anyone Have The Exact Wheel and Tire Weights For The G42 ?

Specifically the base model wheels and tires. And any other specifics about what brand of wheels, and are they flow-forge or cast ?

Just trying to get an idea of how difficult (or easy) it will be to replace the stockers with a decently lighter set of aftermarket wheels.

I found this from the g20 forums regarding wheel weights, https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1740194

“792m staggered wheels and found a German site that listed the 19x8" wide fronts at 12.7kg and the 19x8.5" rears at 13.07kg which converts to approx 28 and 28.5 pounds respectively”

I've pretty much been married to Michelin for as long as I can remember, but I went the Continental DWS 06 Plus route for the same reasons you mentioned. I've always preached "all season tires are no season tires", but as with most things technology changes and improvements are made. With these tires it's hard to justify a dedicated summer tire that may be questionable on a mountain road trip in Spring when temps and conditions are less than ideal, especially since this car will never see a track.

I have a set of winter tires (mountain icon) mounted on the OEM wheels that I'll keep in the garage in the event I make a trip to the mountains in winter, as some of the passes require either chains or the mountain icon on the sidewall to proceed.

Regarding weights:
  • Apex 19x9.5 w/Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus 265/35: 43.6 lbs.
  • BMW 893M 8.5” w/Michelin PS4S 245/35: 51.4 lbs. + 13mm spacer: 51.8 lbs.
  • BMW 893M 9.5” w/Michelin PS4S 255/35: 54.6 lbs. + 13mm spacer: 55.0 lb.s

Apex/tire total weight: 174.4 lbs.
893M/tire total weight w/13mm spacers (1.6 lbs.): 213.6 lbs.
Total unsprung weight savings: 39.2 lbs.

Nice . Not a bad weight savings . And that is for the upgraded ZTK package wheels .

I would imagine the base model wheels are just as heavy, if not more so

It's always surprising to see just how heavy factory cast wheels are. Back in my 2015 Mustang GT, I ran the factory 18's for winter and had a set of 19" TSW Nurburgring for the summer (rotary forged).

Stock 18's with 235 wide Nokian Hakka R2 tires = 52 LBS each
TSW 19's with 275 wide (all 4 corners) MPSS = 50 LBS each

So I moved up an inch, almost 2 inches wider, yet 2 LBS less per corner.

To answer the OP's original question, unless the OEM is providing a lightweight forged wheel (the standard BMW wheels are not very light), nearly any forged aftermarket wheel is typically lighter. Forged wheels are stronger than cast, and can therefore use less material to make an equally strong wheel. Cast vs. cast, they're likely going to be closer in weight.

Forged would be ideal. However , at $4k and much more , for a set of true forged, i would have to be content with Rotary (rolled) Forged wheels.

Would still have a few pounds per wheel weight savings over the stock wheels

Absolutely. There are a lot of semi-forged options out there for a reasonable price that offer weight savings over cast wheels. If you're going for the lightest possible track car, the G42 isn't the best starting point with its heft anyway. Get whatever looks good and offers a little weight savings.
