Bluetooth retrofit and combox

Hi,

Hope this is the right forum. I recently retrofitted a cic idrive system taken from my friend's 2011 328i car onto my 2011 335i. His car has a combox and usb/aux( 6FL) while mine does not have any wiring for tcu or mulf or bluetooth and only has an aux input in the armrest.

I see there is a MMI box I can get or a new screen with carplay but I wan't to eliminate aux input and use bluetooth so I can use my steering wheel controls and retain the oem idrive streaming services like spotify etc. I see these units use the aux input to push audio in? I have the HIFI system but I feel like it does not sound good with aux.

How would I go about wiring it up? My current CIC idrive wiring was spliced into the cic screen connector to retain simplicity so it only comes down to 4 wires to go into the front JBE connector.

Update:

Pulled out the combox wiring harness from my friends car, combox, bluetooth, usb aux, phone cradle, usb/aux fakra cables and mic with mic wire. Planning to retrofit it this week. I want to use the passenger side to place the harness and use the MOST bus on the drivers side. I have pulled the MOST connector also but how would I wire it up? My E90 already has a MOST bus system since it had the connector in the quadlock but I will check to confirm it tommorow. I have the TOP HIFI amp option so there should be a most bus system. How would I use the MOST connection for the combox?

Thanks CTuna. I understand how the loop system works now. Looks like the CIC is the server and the output is the first cable that is lit up.

On another question the phone cradle I pulled has two antenna cables. One that goes to combox with HSD blue port and another that seems like it goes to the roof ariel. Can I leave the roof ariel one disconnected?

The dont bother with cradle at all
Do not connect second HSD cable, use only one to USB socket.

Update:

Wired it up and used the OEM fuse box terminal pins for power to the combox (F13 x11002) and power to the cradle (59 x11007). The aux plugin to the quad lock was also installed. I haven't done the ethernet pins yet to the OBD2. The MOST ring was easy to connect since it's only CIC and Combox in the MOST distribution. The second HSD cable was not used for the cradle. I added the additional VO to get the combox working:
#0311, $620, $644, $6FL, $6NR, $6NF

Any other VO codes im missing? I'm not bothered to use SOS.

Bluetooth is working fine but I noticed when I switched to AUX plugin input the sound quality is terrible compared to my previous AUX without USB. Bluetooth audio sounds fine for now with HIFI. I was wondering if an amplifier upgrade will be worth it like a MATCH UP DSP.

Now I take it to get connected drive I will have to install FSC certs to activate it? My navigation is greyed out. Might have to sign with FSCTools and use DrGini to install certs. Also is there a Y cable to support iphone 15's usb C? I do want to use spotify to get album art and stuff.

Yes, in order to get BMW apps (Office), Nav, voice control or satellite tuner working, you will need to sign and import your own FSC codes. I used FSTool2, not Dr. Gini, so I can not speak to how that program works. Here is the guide I user to retrofit 2 cars that already had Nav and Logic7.

Update:

I was able to sign with FSTool2 and use Dr.Gini to install the certs which was super easy and I was able to see the status of the FSCs for all 5 in a single table. I couldn't find what map version since the navigation was greyed out so I grabbed the FSC data from Dr.Gini and was able to find the right FSC code after several other attempts. Current map pack is 2019 so not too bad. Plan to get the 2023 version. Navigation is working but inaccurate with GPS and I also have the ConnectedDrive option.

Now I have to figure out how to get the GPS accurate as it's 3 miles off. Do I have to install a new sharkfin with the aerial options? My current car had SAT radio prep but I'm not sure if it was build into the radio and also CIC?
