Honestly, I like the G82 better now. So yeah, BMW loyalists will buy a bmw. But I think this sells more M4s. Why have a car that's less powerful and dynamically similar (BMW has said the M2 and M4 will be more similar in the G series than it was in the F series).

There was some insider talk earlier that the G87 design is a throwback to the original E30 M3 which didn’t have side vents or an M3 badge on the side.Who knows if that is true. They definitely don’t look similar.

The back looks like Megatrons ass.

$$$

M4 not hard to spec to 90-100k, I assume this will be somewhat cheaper

Lighting makes it hard to tell but there’s a “diffuser” back there, honestly think this is just an unflattering rear photo

We’ve seen the rear look more normal before:

I'd wait for the LCI regardless

Not sure it's actually fixable TBH

It looks like something that should be somewhat cheaper. If it's not then that will be a problem. It's also made in Mexico to keep costs down.

Let's see what the price is though as there are lots of similar parts.

Interesting take but I think ultimately the people who like a smaller, lighter, more playful car will continue to opt for the M2. Sure the difference probably won't be as start as the F gen products, but I'm sure there will be enough differentiation.

Also, M2 will continue to be a lesser MSRP. Leases may be the same though, I think that was the case for the last gen models.

Forgot about this. Looks much nicer from that angle.

We need to see the weight and price difference before we can say that. But as far as looks go, I think the G series is the better looking car. It's going to age better then people think from a design perspective.

If you have to defend the angle because it's not flattering, that's just you overreaching. If it's not love at first sight, then it isn't.

What a sad ending to the ICE engines for BMW. S58 is great, but the bodies they put it on, yikes.

The body panels and details don't match at all. You have curves, rounded areas than you have squares/box elements. It just doesn't work.

I Typically look at the headlights, taillights and grille as a starting point on how the rest of the body should be designed. It just doesn't work here. Take a look at the rear - the boot lid is rounded, the taillight(design) is rounded or curved but the rear bumper is completely boxy - it looks like a terrible aftermarket bumper someone bought off of AliExpress or Alibaba.
"AliExpress or Alibaba" look is on purpose. They have openly addressed that they are trying aggressively increase market share in that regional demographic.

Please do not misundersand , i just think history repeats itself. The E36 M3 back then was also controversial to the E30 M3 , because thats what it was compared to.

I think it will grow on me , and may add it next to the M2 CS.

1. I prefer no vents over fake vents. Same with badging, less is more to me.

2. I love the F87 from the front, especially the CS. The rest of the car never did it for me.

3. Just curious what's wrong with this? I tend to prefer LCI designs and would rather do it right the first time. I have my E92, just picked up a Veloster N earlier this month and should be getting a GR Corolla next year. Maybe by the G87 LCI there will be something else that I want instead, but for some of us waiting makes perfect sense.
