i reliaze the iPhone is not out until the end of June, but do you speculate it will work out of the box or will it require an iDrive software update? thanks for your insight.

Slightly , but I recall speaking with a Mac genius at the Mac store who told me only Cingular/AT&T has a contract with Apple Computer, Inc. to sell these over the next two years.

Question is not if the iPhone will work with the BMW E9x bluetooth interface, it should, but rather will it be able to pull your contacts so that they can be accessed directly through the car? This is the problem with the Treo. The phone will pair with the vehicle and you can make and receive calls, but the car only pulls those phone numbers programmed into your Favorites list. It does not pull all of your contacts. So, the iPhone should have no problem pairing and working. The question is whether or not it will be fully or only partially compatible. I am going to guess and say that it will only be partially compatible, but then again I have no idea. Just have to wait and see.

The story is that Apple approached Verizon Wireless first, and VZW turned them down: http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/20...n-iphone_x.htm
I wonder how smart that decision was. Saw an ad for it yesterday and it looks way cool.

Cingular has way more email, web, and broadcasting technology than Verizon does. Its no wonder that Cingular got the deal over Verizon, plus way more people use GSM over CDMA.

I agree with the GSM vs. CDMA. When I was visiting Asia in January, I could not use my Verizon phone b/c it was CDMA. Whereas all my friends that had Cingular or T-Mobile just replaced their GSM cards with prepaid ones and they were making phone calls in 2min.
