2011 335d - Occasional Belt Squeal at Start Up
I have an '11 335d with less than 6k mi on the clock and on occasion when cold start my car I hear this loud squeal from under the hood. It sounds like a fan belt, but I'm not sure, it goes away within a few seconds and before I can check it out.
I plan to take it to the dealer. Just curious if anyone else has experienced something similar? |

My engine makes what I can best describe as a whistling or beeping noise, which could be a squeaky belt of some sort. I noticed it over a year ago now and it hasn't caused me any problems so I have to assume it's normal, or at least not harmful. I'm not sure if it's the same sound you're hearing, but I made a thread about it with a video so you could check it out:

That's not the sound that I am hearing. What I am hearing is a LOUD squealing/screeching noise, like a belt slipping. It sounds a lot like Uncle Buck's car but without the backfire!
Funny thing is, I was in denial when I first heard it, blaming it on the car next to me in traffic, since I thought to myself there was no way that sound could be coming out of my car with 4k mi on it. Sure as shit enough, the sound is coming from my car. I've heard it on 3 seperate occassions now, including Easter Sunday when I started my car to leave my dad's house, SCREECH and my dad chuckled. It doesn't do it everytime I start it up, only sometimes. Last edited by cssnms; 04-26-2011 at 10:06 AM.. |

Happened to my father's 335d. They replaced the pulleys, tensioner, and belt. It's an obnoxious noise.

It's under warranty right? Just take it in and tell them to fix it. If a lot of people are having issues with it then it wouldn't be surprising if they had a TSB on it.

The only real squeal I ever got from my "d" was when I started it after it sat for 12+ hours (outdoors) in -31F temps last January.I assume that's to be expected but am not sure...given I've only started a car once at a temp anywhere near -31F.

14k on a mint 2010. I'm sure it was just a fluke. They'll fix it for sure.

It's related to the A/C belt which is probably why it's happening now during warm weather.
Well I finally just got around to taking the car in last week for this issue. Apparently the dealer said all of the A/C pullies and the belt need to be replaced. All parts had to be ordered from Germany because there are NONE in the US. Expecting a call from the dealer within the next 5 to 7 days when the parts are to arrive, and it will be a days work. |

I get the squeal when I turn on my a/c. Really embarrassing, especially on a $49k automobile. I wait til I'm far away from work to even turn the a/c on...

Take it in to the dealer guys. Get the process started now, because they will have to order the parts from Germany.
I am still waiting on the parts. In the meantime before I start up the car I look around to make sure nobody is walking by when I kick on the AC! |

Check out the following bulletin, maybe this is the cause of the "squeal" that you're hearing.
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...S&type=VEHICLE There's another thread posted today about this. Last edited by BlueElectrin; 06-10-2011 at 01:36 PM.. |
