If you have the bumper off then not at all, if you don't, then i would say it's a pain in the ass. A lot of prying from behind the wheel arches. Since I installed a new grill and vent trim, I had the bumper off and that was a quick install. Without taking off the bumper it's going to take time and a lot of wiggling. YouTube search BMW DYI guy, he has a video of the install.

Yeah I do not think I want to take the bumper off either. I would really be interested to see how your tinted reflectors look like because I am leaning towards Alpine White. That would be a nice contrast.

Turn the wheel, undo three bolts in the wheel well and peel back the fender liner. Carefully hit it with a heat gun or hairdryer from the outside until you can pop the top of the reflector. Then continue to heat and work your way down. It's tight but not too difficult. There are a couple of videos on YouTube that can assist.

I paid a shop to do it because i was in Miami and I live in North Florida but looking at the YouTube video it is not that hard and you dont have to remove the bumper, it is easier if you remove the front wheels though, the shop took 30 min for both reflectors, use a heatgun to dilute the adhesive of the stock ones, here is a link for an easy replacement:

On my F87 I just turned the wheel in for clearance, no need to remove them. Your best tool to get them off is heat. They are only secured via double sided tape. Slowly go back and forth over the reflector applying heat to it until it's softened up, but be careful not to get it too hot. IIRC it took about 7~10m of continuous heat to get them off. I used a plastic pry tool to catch an edge from behind the bumper while also pressing on the reflector from the outside. You will feel it start to slowly begin to peel off. Just need to take your time and it'll eventually release. Whatever you do don't rush it, that's how mistakes happen.
Here is a DIY install video from iND. They remove the wheel in the video but also mention that you can just turn the wheels in to give you access. They use a heat gun in the video, which is fine. Just be careful because heat guns get way hotter than blow dryers. |
