i dont think i'd be opposed to a hybrid. porsche did a good job with the 918 (NA v8 + battery). I'd take that over a turbo motor if it wasn't for the significant weight gain from batteries.

But knowing BMW they'd rather do a turbo 4 cylinder hybrid like the C63, rather than an NA inline 6 + battery.

Is that more cost effective for the manufacturers?

Have they ruled out offering a manual on any hybrid car? Now that I think about it, are there any manufactures that offer a manual hybrid car?

Honda has made a few in the past. There’s never been a hybrid sports car with a stick and honestly I doubt it will ever happen considering what manufacturers have been saying about MTs (“this is the end”). Maybe Porsche will do it considering their history and the fact their MT is basically a PDK and it’s likely they’ll use the PDK in a hybrid.

not sure. i would suspect they get some govt kickbacks for lower emissions across the fleet.

If going hybrid next M2 will easily being over 4,000lbs. Even with the C63 downgrading to a 4-cylinder, it weighs over 4,600lbs with the additional hybrid component weight. A mild hyrbid setup like the Corvette Eray added 350lbs to the Stingray.

Cool to have confirmation, but sad to know they won't be pushing NA/Turbo only cars. But, its a sign of the times. At least we aren't buying C"63's". I think both G and F owners can at least agree that thing is stupid.

I think we're lucky it's fully ICE the way everyone else is going. I appreciate BMW waiting as long as they can. Also fuck government mandates.

"We should make a distinction between “new model launches” and updates to existing products because the M2 is certainly not the last M car to use a gasoline-only setup. The M5 will switch to a plug-in hybrid V8 for its next generation, but the current M3 and M4 will receive a Life Cycle Impulse expected to retain the S58 setup without electrification baked in. The M2 itself has a long life cycle up ahead, and logic tells us BMW will spice up the product with tweaks in the years to come."

yup, as I previously said, better wait for more color options, mechanical and design tweaks, idrive 9, etc as base g87 will not be the last ICE model

F and G series cars will not be future classics. There isn't anything special about them. Maybe the M2CS will be due to low production, hype, and manual. The M4 CSL has had mixed reviews at best and has a slushbox

The e92 is only going to up in price. Someone decided that a 10 year old used M3 is worth more than speccing a brand new G87.

14k mile 2013 e92 m3 sold for $73k + fees yesterday.

I would bet serious money that a low mileage, well specced M2 in 10 years will also be able to pull significant money. Being the last gasp of pure ICE BMW M cars, especially with being available with a stick, makes them special.

The e92 you listed wasn't "special" either when it came out, it was just another M car that had gained too much weight compared to the previous gen and was going too far from it's roots .

At least for F series, I’d say it depends how many decent examples are still around 20 years from now, after prices drop, kids buy them up and mod the hell out of them and/or crash them. Used F87s are going to be like used 350zs were once the 370 came out.

I can almost guarantee the F87 will indeed be a future classic. It was universally regarded as one of M's best.
Will the G87 be regarded that way, who knows? We'll see with enough time.
