M57N2 325D injector upgrade advice?
Looking at getting my car remapped soon (still standard 200ish BHP). I’ve a 2008 pre lci E91 325D M57N2 auto.
With the M57 engine comparing 325D to 330D I believe it has slightly smaller injectors and fuel rail layout is different so you can’t just do a straight swap to M57 330D injectors, the turbo is slightly smaller (good for about 300-320bhp) and the gearbox is usually the ZF 6hp19 instead of ZF 6hp26 so a little less beefier in what it can handle toque-wise. So as i will get it remapped from what I understand upgrading the injectors can help release a fair bit more power so what are my upgrade options in terms of injectors? I would prefer a straight swap rather than re tipping/changing nozzles. My current injectors are: BMW 7794435 Bosch 0445110209 So far my research is telling me that early pre lci 2004-2007 E60/E61 535D injectors would be a straight swap. They are 219s. Only problem with these is that they are quite hard to find and very expensive. BMW - 7792096 Bosch - 0445110219 Do I have any other options in terms of straight swap injectors (I know I will need to code these) that will still make a reasonable difference for flow/spray and not be quite as expensive as the 219s? Thanks |

Following on from this;
Looks like it’s a lot cheaper to change the nozzles out of my current injectors and doesn’t look too hard to do either. So I’m going to go this route. At least comparing the above with buying secondhand 535d injectors. Just need to find out the part numbers of what I want. Or I could buy a set of used E46 330D injectors and then swap the nozzles. Again this would be cheaper but I like the idea of new nozzles. With changing the nozzles of my current injectors, would I need to code them too, I’m thinking yes? I looked into this too, I have a 59 plate LCI with the M57 325d too, the only straight swap injectors are the 535d injectors. I didn't know you could swap nozzles, if you swap the nozzle is the rest of the injector parts the same as the larger injectors? By that I mean the coil etc that pulses to open and shut the injector.
The 325 and 330d use the same turbo, and intercooler I checked my chassis number on real OEM against a 330d and they were the same part numbers. You can get decent power out of the standard injectors, I think around 260bhp and 600 Nm are possible. |

I’m not sure about that, I still need to do some research on changing the nozzles. I’m finding it a bit difficult to find out exactly what nozzles from what injectors I need and their part numbers. Yes that sounds about right. With an injector/nozzle change from what I’ve read 290-300bhp is achievable. So dependant on the price to make the upgrades, the extra 30-40bhp (not sure on torque) is quite a lot and may be worth it, for me anyway. |

DLLAP1601415 is the part number for 535d nozzles
Got a set of 4x for my 320d from ORTL store on Aliexpress for £60 delivered.. (around £15 each then I guess) Made a massive difference even without mapping afterwards. Worthwhile mod to do IMHO. They come with new needles and after fitting my smooth running program was loads better than with my worn OE tips. Genuine Bosch ones are hard to come by and are alot more expensive. I took a chance on the cheap ones but am pleasantly surprised as they have given me No issues whatsoever.. Just be careful with all the small parts especially the shims when swapping parts over.. |

Now I know that the 535D injectors can be straight swapped but the 535D nozzles would fit into my current injectors fine (BMW 7794435, Bosch 0445110209), is that correct? Is it a relatively straightforward job, replacing the nozzle and tip of the injectors? |

I believe so yes. If your car has the Bosch Solenoid Injectors not the Piezo ones.
There is a guide I found somewhere on how to strip down and clean these type of injectors. Use and follow that to help identify which parts go in which order when reassembling them. (The info is out there online.) No coding needed. Just take your time and be meticulous. Also be careful torqueing down the inlet manifold, the bolts can shear.. Use a small torque wrench as they are only like 9nm or something spec.. |

This guide seems good, for Bosch solenoid injectors anyway: https://youtu.be/IOD_QXJdo0M.you don’t have to go as in depth as him. Ok, thanks. Good to know I won’t need to code anything |

I’ve just contacted Celtic tuning just as they mentioned some injector nozzle upgrades on their website. On their website it says:
“Stage 2 requires larger injectors nozzles from an early 218bhp 530d. The nozzles from other variants can be used like the 218bhp X5 or the 201bhp E46 330d but power figures will vary accordingly”. I messaged them about part numbers and they said to me “The X5 3.0 218bhp run clean, the others may be a little smokey.” So it seems at least from their perspective and experience the X5 3.0 218bhp nozzles would be best to use. I just need to figure out what year this X5 is, find out the injector part number and then find the nozzle part number |

Just updating this after speaking to a couple of tuners;
Injector nozzles definitely help with the power but the cost of a proper dyno session to map the car properly with the new injector nozzles would be quite high but yes around 290-300 would be achievable. I’m basically looking to get a bit more power as cheap as possible. So, it was a nice idea but I’m not going to bother. I’ll just get it remapped soon with everything stock and should see about 250/260bhp and 380-400 lb/ft of torque |

Hi in a totally different situation fitted 535d injector nozzles from darkside along with the usual mods r90 pump and hybrid turbo, went for mapping last night and in live data the injectors were in spec when calibarated but would not idle smoothly almost as if it had a misfire, any ideas on what to check car ran perfect before hand, reverted back to origianal map and idles slightly better, it also goes into limp home mode at 3k rpm
