Nav screen turns red and turns off???
Out the blue my 2009.5 msports nav turns all red whe I started the car and after 15 seconds it turns off. All of the features seems to be working.
Any ideas??? Is there a way to reset the nav? BT Scanner? I didn't expect a dealer visit so damn soon. I barely broke in the car! Alan

That's going to be a tough one to troubleshoot yourself. Off to the dealer you go.

That same exact thing happened to mr the other day I turned off the car and started it again and still same thing! After I let the car sit there for a while it was fine and hasn't done since then.. I don't think i'm going to go to the dealership for it, but I took some quick iPhone pics just in case!
Beemer3 that also happened to! I was sitting at a red light and all of a sudden everything except the engine turns off! |

So after the ecu went to sleep I went back out to see if it was still going to do it and it started up, however the nav thought I was where I was at when I started it and it was doing the red flashing stuff ... hopefully it'll figure itself out when I leave in the morning ... I'm guessing this is basically just a hicup

I have had that red screen come up twice aswell, and i managed to get a picture of it. It seems to be a problem only with 2009 model iDrives, and my dealer BMW Waterloo, said that BMW is aware of this issue, and that i would be notified as soon as an update to fix this would show up. It seems that when this screen comes up that everything still works, i could listen to my music, change the songs from my steering wheel, but my screen stays red. After a few restarts, and maybe half an hour it will go back.

Try pressing the 'Volume Knob" for 25 seconds to reset the CIC.

Hey guys check your battery cables, make sure everything is nice and tight. Sounds crazy, but it happened to me. Turns out the negative terminal cable was a little loose. Cheers!

I had a 2010 E90 335i loaner for a week and it had the same problem. I took it back to the dealership after driving a couple of miles and they told me that they were aware of the issue and asked me to keep driving. All the joy of driving a 335 was ruined by the whole entertainment system restarting every once every couple of minutes. Every time it turned on, the radio would select the same stupid FM station and at times I wasn't even able to shut the radio off. After a week and about 500 miles, I was glad to have my car back from service.

It happened again to me ... this time it's not going away after the car sleeps
Tried that and nothing ... I saw in another thread it's supposed to be the On/Off/Volume knob & DVD/CD Eject button together ... can anyone confirm? Taking the car to the dealer in a couple weeks (only time I could get a loaner) so hopefully they can get this fixed .. lucky I have a short drive to work

Just a quick update on this .. they did the software update and I still had the issue ... they then replaced the CIC (I think that's what it was) ... and it's good to go

I got it on video too... started the car and navi was just fine. I entered my destination address and drove off. 5 minutes later, my screen turns red but I was still listening to my ipod and it was still giving me directions. Then the screen just turned off but again, everything else was working (voice navi, ipod, phone, etc). I pulled over, turned the car on and off....nothing, same crap. I held the radio power button down for 25 sec to reboot....nothing... screen would turn off and restart right back to the red screen. It's 3am right now so I didn't feel like dealing with it. I'm going to check it in the morning and see if it's working or whats up. I'll also be scanning it with a BT cable and will post up any error codes it gives me. Fking iDrive. This happened when I was 1hr away from home in an unfamiliar neighborhood and raining hard... it was also 2am. Just when I needed the navi, it let me down.

Red/orange screen means that either the CIC is having an issue with its video output (no output at all) or that the screen is defective. Most probably is the first...
